Look at the 17 in the GF. Atleast 5 or 6 would be on close to minimum wage. Laurie for example is stil development contract. So you double a few of those guys suddenly are under cap pressure

5/6 players of our GF side earning close to the minimum of $120K I’m not sure that is accurate but regardless we are clearly a victim of our successful season.

I fully understand the pressure on our cap around players players performing above expectations again that is not the issue.

Again i say if you Franklin were in the shoes of Matt Cameron would you not have been more proactive in locking up the likes of Crichton and Lenui.

It was very clear mid season we were active in attempting to free up cap space hence the early releases of Jed, Elilis etc and I think the decisions around Tamou & Mansour & Hetherington to name but a few should also have been made much earlier.

Leaving such critical retention decisions to the last minute has clearly hurt us whether you choose to accept it or not and those decisions are why we are still unsure around retaining Crichton and Lenui.

It is mind boggling incompetence for Cameron and Cleary to take Josh Mansour out to lunch one week after out GF to tell him he is surplus to requirements when he should or could have been told the same thing in June/July irrespective of how good a season he had or did have.

Hello, the club has been trying to lock up Crichton, and Leniu, for a while.

Proof of any of this please? A few young very talented kids have wanted to test the market (they'd be f**king morons not to).

To'o
Naden
Crichton
Martin
Leinu
Burton
Staines
Laurie ( Development deal)

All wouldn't be on close to minimum? Gus signed all those guys up a couple of years ago

To what salary cap? Still not signed off

More than happy for you to enlighten me as to the names of the 5 to 6 players in our GF lineup earning closer to $120k than say $200k or above.

Im struggling to think of one or two but maybe you know better.

You provide the proof, who are the five or six referred to by Franklin?

To’o maybe but he had been upgraded prior to our our successful run, Crichton maybe but still closer to $200k than the basic wage, Jerome perhaps although I think his Gould upgrade maybe elevated him into the closer to 200k category. I simply don’t see any of the forwards who started in the GF or those off the bench being on minimum wage. Liam Martin $120 no I don’t think so. Tyrone May good luck with that one given he was report-ably earning.

Mate, you are smart enough to know that is not true.

You are well aware managing the salary cap is difficult as you rightly point out.

Managaing a salary cap is very strategic and managment need to look well beyond 2021.

Our current situation from my reading should have been about priorities, which deals were more important than others to get the job done.

I would have thought, and I'm sure you feel the same way, it should have been a priority for us going forward to lock up the likes of Crichton and Lenui.

It's very difficult to see how we have done our business very well given there were clearly priorities that were not secured and they should have been.

We may well get the job done, I'm confident we will but it shouldn't have come to this.

Viliame Kikau whom you mention is an interesting one. I'm not sure where we go with Kikau, no idea what he is currently earning and no idea what he may want to demand in the future but much like RCG I'm just not sure he has quite earnt the huge bucks. I know he get's the kudo's, is considered the best wide running back rower in the game picked by his peers, but you know what Im just not sold on him. I just don't know that he quite delivers. Obviously just me, but I just can't help feeling we should get more from him.

Kilkenny I know the same people complaining the loudest this year are the same ones that were complaining the loudest after last year. If Leniu leaves it will be because our management didn’t want to pay what he was asking. Paying ridiculous money for a 20 year old prop when we already have a young contending team would be incredibly stupid imo. If you are going to throw ridiculous money at a 20yo it has to be a spine player or like Crichton someone who can move there. Our top 17 is ridiculous talented, the amount of negativity in here is becoming really over the top, just be patient ffs. People are just complaining cause they want news now.
