But you side-step the main point: why did we buy him in the first place?

I think we may have bought him as cover for both hooker and halves. He showed alot of promise.

Api was killing it for North Sydney playing halfback in 2014 and he was also a very handy goal kicker. The kid was only 21 when we signed him so it was a low risk move for both parties. Add to this that McInnes was captain of the NYC team for Souths and when promoted to NSW Cup in 2014 was the preferred hooker and Api was moved to 7.

In all likelihood he was probably told by Souths that McInnes was going to be ahead of him in the pecking order within a season (meaning he would be 3rd choice hooker and 3rd or 4th choice half) so he accepted this and moved on. Would have been great to keep him but Gus' crystal ball didn't tell us that Segs was going to go to shit, Sowie was going to struggle to regain his 2014 form and that Cleary and TMM were going to impress so much that they would be given 1st grade debuts and likely hold their spots barring injury.

We didn't have a specialist backup hooker when we signed him, atleast not one that had played FG so he filled that hole. By the end of the season Katoa had debuted and Luke was looking like a future star in the NYC so maybe they thought we could cover it. Im happy enough with Wallace as a hooker until one of Katoa or Luke can fill the role, Wallace just needs to run less and pass more.

Yeah off contract and in demand though. He has fallen off a cliff since his injury but in 2014 he was the best hooker in the NYC and looked destined for big things.

Was just answering the question on who we had on the books when api signed mate.

Umm yeah I know, I wasn't having a go at you just providing a bit more context. I never asked that question anyway, I referred to 2015 and he wasn't on the books then.

I'm just speculating now but id say the club knew they weren't going to be able to retain him and went out and got someone else.

All good man. You asked who you were leaving out.

Moseley was on contract for 2015 but was released early after we signed api.

So many of the players he took to the NYC grand final are now in our first grade team.

I agree he should have been given a chance to coach first grade.Maybe he will come back in a few years and finish what he started.
