Please. He easily makes our 17.

I'd have Grant over him.

Where we are lacking is a straight out 4th 2nd rower for our 17. Maybe 2 if Ivan sees JFH as a prop.

Ivan's teams are usually pretty good at defence and discpline. That is where we struggle.

look at last year

Tigers conceded less tries, Less Errors, Less penalties. Missed tackles they were 16th but we were 15th.

looking at our defence. The top 4 worst for us in regards to defence were

Maloney
RCG
JFH
Kikau

2 middles and 2 left side defenders. A couple of defensive forwards would be handy.
Giving Ivan a top 30 spot and some cap space to get defensive players is better in the long run. Given we have 5 props before we even get to Hetherington

Only Luke would say Mez cant be replaced and laugh at the idea of even approaching Taupau or Klemmer.

Apparently we lose something if a player says no. Nevermind the fact that all 16 clubs want him and only one will get a yes.

Only MX would completely misinterpret wha I said. Which is frustrating when it’s written right in front of him.

Please show me where I said Mez can’t be replaced? Don’t put words in my mouth!

I said it’s stupid to let him go without a player if his experience lined up to replace him.

I also said that Klemmer and Marty aren’t options. I’d be stoked to have either of them, but it won’t happen.

Geez you people are hard work.

Normally I would agree that getting rid of Merrin would be a poor decision because our team is in dire need of experience BUT he is on 750k and he is not worth a third of that right now, sure he was a rep player in the past but he is a long way down the pecking order for any rep side now, we shouldn't keep a player on experience alone if he offers very little on game day, especially if he is one of our top earners.

That is essentially it. Of course find a suitable replacement but he isn't playing well enough to keep on either. He will be released shortly.

As I have said before. I hate releasing guys but it is different on a few reasons here.

A new coach should be left to get the roster they want is the main one. Even if Merrin is on half of that money. Still is a decent stack to get a forward to match Ivan's style (Which is grinding footy).

2nd of all see above. These new coaches will release players to get the squads they want. As long as we use the money there will be some decent guys made available to get

atm I can't see our bench backrower. We have a decent enough front row rotation even without Merrin

Confident something will come from our reserves. Cleary had some guys like Matt Robinson and Mitch Achurch firing at stages. I think he has form turning players into reliable first graders.

He must be replaced with a similar player or we are going backwards. We can’t just let him go and expect one of the players we already have to fill that hole. It won’t work, you’ll see other players form slide, because now they are trying to take on more responsibility than they are ready for.

If we’re not bringing anyone new in, and we’re under the cap for 2019, what’s the point of getting rid of Merrin now?

The money saved needs to be for something, otherwise you keep him.

Don’t have time to look at all the stats now, but I’m pretty sure he averages more meters per minute than any of our other props in 2018.

The voice of reason.

Based on what? The form that he showed in not being about to get a run in a pack which is a lot weaker than ours??

Luckily your not picking the team, that’s all I’m saying.

He aved 83m a game in FG last year.

Leota 52m
Hetherington 57m
JFH 82m

Cleary doesn't like him is why he didn't get a start which is why he won't this year

Same could be said for why release CHN and Peachey. That didn't change the cap position for 2019 hopefully it gave us some cash to play with though

I rate Burns and Martin but they are realistically 2-3 seasons from being up to handling regular FG. So we need that void filled if not Merrin than someone else

I said as much at the time about Peachey. If there was no cap reason to release him I’m dumbfounded why we would.

The club is trying to win a premiership, you don’t do that by releasing your most experienced players.

The only thing that makes sense is we needed the cap space.

So if we need the cap space for 2019, ok, release Merrin. Otherwise I’m pretty confident he’d love to have the chance of winning a premiership with us.

He’s one of 3 players in our squad to have played in the GF.
