I have no idea what we are paying Tetevano or Capewell but surely given our depth in the forward pack we could have forgone one of the above and just brough in an outside back. No idea who that is Matt Cameron’s job I guess but surely we could have found someone decent even if only to add to depth because we don’t have any.

If I was guessing I’d say Api, Tetevano and Capewell combined would be on $1m.

lets go with this as our starting backs

Edwards
To’o
Naden
Whare
Mansour

leaving depth as:

Aekins
McGrady
Crichton
Jed
MWZ

10 outside backs in a squad of in a squad of 30 is fine. Another 3 in Development squad.

The issue is Whare/Mansour being past it. If not for that the squad balance is good

$1 million is definitely too low. The average salary is now around $310k. All those 3 are well above average players.

We didn’t sign them early in the off season though. Who particularly was linked to Tetevano?

Even if closer to your calculation. I doubt it gets split 4 ways to include a back. So it is a back instead of one of the 3

Smith signs new Panthers deal

Penrith Panthers is delighted to announce Lindsay Smith has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

The new deal will see the 20-year-old forward join the club’s top 30 squad for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

"This is a huge moment for me and I feel extremely privileged to have the chance to commit my future to Panthers,” Smith said.

“This club has been a big part of my life growing up. I’m so grateful for all the years I’ve been here.

"It’s my dream to play in the NRL and this new deal is just another small step towards that ultimate goal.”
A local St Marys junior, Smith first entered the Panthers development pathways at the age of 14 via the club’s Junior Elite Training Scheme (JETS).

His representative honours include a man-of-the-match performance for the U16s NSW Origin team in 2016 and selection in the 2017 Australian Schoolboys side alongside Panthers teammates Spencer Leniu and Shawn Blore.

A double shoulder reconstruction sidelined Smith in 2018 before he returned to play 19 games for the Panthers Jersey Flegg side last season
"We’re delighted for a local junior like Lindsay to join the club’s full-time NRL squad next year," Panthers General Manager Rugby League Matt Cameron said.

"He’s impressed at every level during his seven years in the Panthers system and his journey truly highlights the quality of our development programs.

“On and off the field, Lindsay reflects the core values that we strive to instil in the young men and women at our club.”

Smith has been named in the Panthers Canterbury Cup side to face North Sydney Bears at Panthers Stadium on Saturday.

I don’t see us re-signing Ellis or Tamou. MWZ either but he is a back

If you lose Tamou then you have to get another experienced prop. He is willing to stay for less. 31 years old, captaincy duties. I'd be on the side of keeping him.

He won't be hot property but he will get interest from other clubs for sure.

Depends where you want to spend the money. What is he on $700k? That would buy JAC

Tamou won’t be necessary after this year imo, I like him but if Heathro and Moses have good years we do not need him, Fish and Yeo are part of that middle rotation and experienced enough to be leaders, after this year we have better captain options than we did heading into this season, you could make Api or Yeo captain next season or even Fish.

I’d be keeping Tamou on the assumption he has a similar year then the last 2. You’d assume he wouldn’t be expecting the same money given his age etc, & he’s been more than solid for us imo.
