If there are no players that they consider long-term prospects, and the players they try and sign to cover for one year want longer than one year deals, then they may choose not to sign them.

Well that's going to be the case every year... but clubs have to make do with what's available on the open market. It's a two way street negotiation wise and that will never change.

Why wouldn't we? It would be a bit silly to not spend up to our salary cap on purpose yet again.

Nobody available? Nobody suitable available?

There's no point spending for the sake of it and having an oversized squad full of fringe players. That will just piss everybody off and take opportunity away from blokes who signed here specifically for opportunity.

"Well mate, I know we said during negotiations that you'd be competing with that guy for a spot, but now you're actually competing with four other guys for a spot. Don't think we lied to you; we've just changed our minds and what we said during negotiations doesn't apply any more. Chin up eh?"

Lastly, leaving cap space next year will allow us to front-load some of next year's contract extensions. Especially if Reni keeps playing well.

well anything can be seen to be seen to be silly on the surface but unless you know what's happening behind the scenes than why make an assumption?? and I also don't know where I said that we may not spend the cap on purpose..

actually, I've spoken to an official from another club who made it clear that most clubs always leave some cap space in reserve..

As long as we do not here that excuse from the club. Kearney has had the most flexibilty with the cap since brian smith took over.

what rubbish...

I wouldn't even count JT in the equation but both Hages and DA were here for 2 seasons each and were given the same autonomy in player retention with the exception of the decision to talk to Quade Cooper was made by the board and CEO on the weekend we were playing the Broncos in Brisbane, I would say that was say that was an extraudinary case but regardless we probably should of involved DA who was instead preparing the troops for the Broncos.

I should have said more money clear to chase players. You have to admit. They did not have no wear near the money available to chase talent than what learney does.

I'm not sure where you getting at mate, the head coach whoever he is, is given the same available funds at their disposal as every other coach at their club..I'll be honest with you, I have not heard that our club has been holding back funds to buy players since before the super league war where Fitzy used the money available in the early 90's to refurbish the club..

Ossie made the initial approach to T, asked DA if he wanted him and T said shit yeah!!!...

there was no drama there..

Hagan had a year to get his team together. Ando was signed at the same time of year kearney was.

Well if it is reported kearney's team this year is a million under the cap. Throw in 5 or 6 players off contract you could say he has had nearly 2 million to spend this year on recruitment. I dont believe hagan & especially ando has had that much money to play with
