wighton is a pretty good defender from what I have seen. Good move by Stuart to actually use him in a position he is more comfortable playing.

He and campo may be good defenders so far but by the same token, Tim smith only missed one tackle in his first seven games.

Really? But that was his first seven games.

Wighton has played centre (where the first requirement is good one-on-one defence) at NRL level plus his defence is proven over 20+ games. Campese is noted as a good defender, for a half anyway.

I expect they will remain the game's strongest defensive halves, meaning Canberra run out for every game with less defensive liability than any other team.

But Canberra are the 6th worst defensive team?

Sure, Wighton/Campo might give them size 3 in from the edge, but they are fragile around the ruck.
From what we saw last season, Ricky ain't great at coaching defensive structure in the modern game - or perhaps he just didn't care (possible).

From what I've seen of both pairings, I'd actually rate the Manly pairing of DCE and Foran as the games strongest halves pairing.

And without looking at ineffective tackles, NRLstats.com have DCE/Foran making 121 tackles, with 12 misses (10% miss rate), with Campo/Wighton making 144 with 16 misses (11% miss rate)

They are strong defenders too, mostly because Foran is so good. Cherry-Evans still gets carved up from time to time when teams are able to isolate him.

Yeah he was bloody good attacking edge forward until maybe around 2007 or so. He still managed to score 60 tries for us, he could hit holes in his early days.

That's fine, but he really wasn't in the same class as Ray Price (in terms of attack). He certainly was one of Parramatta's best ever players, though. No doubt about that.

Surely the Roosters wouldn't stand in the way from South Sydney or Canterbury making another addition to their respective packs? :p
