Look, it's a nice romantic notion to think that Sandow will happily sign on at Parramatta for less money than he's currently on. But it just isn't realistic, UNLESS, he gets absolutely zero interest from any other clubs. What are the chances of that? Sharks missed out on DCE, so they've obviously got buckets of cash ready to spend on someone. Why wouldn't Manly have a go for him? Like the Sharks, if not more so, they would have a truckload of cash burning a hole in their cap. He and Sezer would be good for each other I reckon. Hell, even the Broncos look like they need someone better in the halves if Ben Hunt decline continues. They sorely need some creativity in their ranks right now.

If it came down to a bidding war, and Parra stuck to their guns insisting he would have to stay for less, say 400K-450K (which would be an absolute steal going on his form over last 12 months), it's likely the Sharks and Manly could/would be able to offer him double what Parra would. And as much as we'd all like to think he owes Parra and he'll stay because he likes BA, he thinks we're going to win a GF, or he likes the restaurant strip on Church Street... it would be econmically derelict for him to give up 2, 3 or 4 hundred thousand dollars a year.

And remember, we kept hearing that Foran coming to Parra was not a money decision, but about playing under BA... 1.2 million a season is pretty good money for someone who didn't sign for money!!!

Sharks would be a good fit for Sandow, especially if Barba goes back to FB. Michael Gordon is not the long term fulback for the Sharks, he's getting on now.

I hope Sandow stays at Parra, but if he does, he's not going to sign for less money just because he believes in sunshine, lollipops and rainbows and everyting that's wonderful like some would like to believe...

Plenty of players take less money, just a few examples:
Hinchcliffe remaining at storm over eels
Proctor staying with storm over Raiders
Milford going to Brisbane over massive Raiders off
Semi remaining at eels over Union offer.
Menzies staying at manly over eels
Cronin staying at eels over manly

These are just a few.

Even though Hoppa may be on overs, I am sure the club sees that as a reasonable investment given he is becoming the 'poster boy' for the club. He is being pushed front and centre to promote the club (the 'brand') which management are keen to make the number one sports franchise in Australia - as per their recent publically released strategy document.

The clean cut image is good for the brand, sells tickets, attracts new followers and most likely attracts and inspires other players. This stuff comes at a premium.

He is also a damn good player which I think we haven't seen the best of yet.

Perhaps... but I don't think any of those players moved or stayed, depending on the situation, for LESS money than what they were on... Don't forget, people are not just saying Sandow will stay for less than he could get elsewhere, people are saying he should take a reduction to what he is on now.

I don't think Hinchcliff or Proctor stayed with the Storm for less money than what they were already getting from the Storm. Semi's upgrade from the Eels would have been substantial to what he was on prior, maybe not as much as what some Union teams were offering, but still a lot more than he was on. Milford's offer from Brisbane would have dwarfed what he orginally went to Canberra for as a junior, so even with the Raiders counter, he still would have been going to Brisbane with a lot more in his pocket than he had before. And anyway, Ricky Stuart is the coach at Canberra so he may well have left for Brisbane for nothing more than a 50K and a used Ford Cortina just to get the f**k away from the bloke!

Sandow has had issues with the punt prior, no doubt he'll be looking for top dollar in what could be his final contract. For mine it's

1 - Norman
3 - Hoppa (if we can afford him, highly doubt the $800K)
6 - Foran
7 - Sandow
13 - Matterson

fullback isn't a position you want a 150k player who's maxed out their potential running around as 1st choice

So you would pay 600k over 150k to get the same thing.

Compare it too a car. Hoppa may have a few tiny extra features but not enough to demand that much more.
Hoppa is a good quailty first grade player-Untill he proves me different he doesnt deserve a big contract

Robbo is no where in Hoppa's class, give him a few games and his class/ability will show. Robbo is a decent player and goes ok on the wing but there is a reason he is at his fourth club.

I reckon a lot has to do with matterson's development. If he kills it and BA wants him in the halves than sandow goes while Hoppa and Norman stay.

they're not the same thing, far from it.

and if i wasn't prepared to pay 600k because i thought hoppa was overvalued i'll replace him with someone worth about 400-500k who is worth it. robinson ain't that man

+1

For a bloke to come back and play Origin after sitting out for 2 years is a remarkable achievement. You would have to imagine he is still 2-3 years off his peak at the moment.

For mine it is the blokes with a one year deal with the most to worry about. Unless Robbo, Taka, Champion and Wicks has a fantastic year, probably none will be here come 2016.

No way would I let Hoppa go unless he wanted crazy money. I think Parra have been very good to Hoppa, and he has been and will continue to be very good for Parra.

I think Taka has a good chance of staying on the proviso he builds on his impressive first up effort, but the other 3, I think you could be on the money. Although, if Norman were to stay and play fullback, then I could see Robinson being held on to as well....

What do people think is the minimum you want to be playing your fullback?

He's almost become as important as the hooker.

The funny thing is that outstanding fullbacks seem to be thick on the ground.

You could nearly make an argument that its an easier position to play than the other spine positions.

Most sides don't lose as much when they have to use a fill in fullback (perhaps leave Justin hunt out of the equation).

Halves or hookers are usually close to irreplacable.

Certainly if you wanted to buy a top shelf fullback, you would have a lot more targets than if you did the same with a halfback or hooker.
