Because “Crashing” into the line isn’t what you think it is.

Second rowers generally run in the tram lines or run overs lines.

It’s about the the angle the Centre runs. Brad Best runs it all the time. Billy smith is another that runs it a lot, but their set up is slightly different.
Billy Smith doesn't play any football at all very much

Ahh you are calling a centre that hogs it a crash centre... got it.

All centres run into gaps, some look to pass some just hog it

You’re the troll Champ and it’s actually sad.

I post my observations and you choose to argue with them.

You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about, if you did, you wouldn’t make such stupid comments.

A crash centre is a centre that uses his feet to attack inside shoulders of of a defence line. As opposed to skipping to the outside shoulder, like most centres.
Best does it regularly and I’ve seen Taylan do the same. If you understood, you’d realise that I was comparing their styles.

It’s called a crash centre, because if you get it wrong, you get jammed.

Don’t comment on shit you don’t understand and maybe you’ll look less foolish.

This.

100% right.

And just because they are primarily classified as crash centre's doesn't mean they also can't create for their winger.

Like I probably would have classified Burton as a crash centre because he ran the inside shoulder line so often as a centre - but he still created some for his winger.

Taylan, I believe has the capacity to do both - Cleary might simplify the gameplan for him though initially given his injury lay-off and training in a new position - but I do believe he can develop. If not McLean has Crichton potential given his physical dimensions and type of running style.

Partially yes...partially no lol.

Some attack the inside shoulder to create space for offloads. Like if the opposing centre slides too much and our centre attacks their inside shoulder and the trailing half isn't there to support, that attracts two sometimes three defenders and creates a misalignment in the defensive line - which allows our five-eight/half or winger to support the centre for the pop up. It's what Best did so effectively with Ponga towards the back end of the year for the Knights.

But yes, in some instances - it could be classed as not passing to the winger - but then again the winger shouldn't get the ball every time a centre has it either. Because then the defensive mantra is "Use the sideline as an extra defender" and that winger could be squeezed out if there is no space to work and they don't have the sense to move infield.

If you compare Crichton and Best's numbers though

Both had the same amount of try assists
Same line break assists
Crichton had way more tackle breaks

The big difference was passes.

A centre will get the ball, Use footwork and either go inside or outside his opposing centre

The aim is the same though in both those styles to attract a 2nd defender. whether they feed the winger or feed the half.

It isn't like any centre is running directly at their opposing centre as the term 'crash' would imply. Certainly not how we attack, using angles and edge defenders as decoys

What if Schneider has a big year and Romey goes could we see Nathan at 5/8 in 2025 .
After all he moved there in the last part of the grand final . Just a thought .

They'll do it the same way it's done now swapping positions mid-game. That or we evolve the attack in another way. No need to change the number on the back.

And players get sentimental about numbers, particularly the 7. Brandy, Gower and now Cleary. Also look back at the last WC with how pissy the players were with the jersey numbers. Cleary is a WC winning halfback with a 14 jersey. Munster with the 7.

Our halves often change sides, If he goes then Cleary would play both sides more you think. Downside is we become more a one player team. Which we have avoided so far
