I still don't know why the Panthers bothered tbh. John is going great guns and you have Humple and a few other young blokes coming through. Soward will probably be superfluous before he even gets there.

Evans and Scarlett in NYC look the goods long term though we can't wait and hope they are as good as they look. in 2 years or so we may have an issue but I rather have that issue then trying to find halves

Humble is terrible, Capewell more a utility, Coote is always injured. Soward is better then Walsh and pretty much replacing him.

We have a half that doesn't run now so no different just a better kicking game and John, Moylan can do what they do now just with Soward not Walsh

Dont understand why Soward gets bagged so much. When his kicking game is on song there is no one better in the NRL. He's currently playing under a clueless coach and next to the worst half in the world of rugby league - Nathan Fein.

Sutton's playing the best football of his life and Maguire's going to shift him? He's not stupid. Besides, Dylan Walker is more suited to 5/8 - Keary is too similar to Reynolds.

If Walker is going to ball-play he'd be much better off at FB, and he wont be going there for a while.

Apparently Sutton has been moving to 13 at times during training since pre-season. He looked even better then he;s been this year when he was allowed a bit more freedom to roam and run the ball.

If you playing split halves it doesnt matter if there similar, which theyre not. Keary is a more better ball-player and ball-runner then Reynolds.

Walsh is the same for us. It's as neither run the ball though you put running halves and FB around them both go so much better

Thats not the problem other clubs are going to throw 250k approx at them you cant afford to keep them

Sutton already got moved to lock on the weekend, he can play there without changing his role much

Keary is not similar to Reynolds at all. Reynolds has a strong kicking game, Keary's strengths are taking the ball to the line, creating linebreaks

What everyone seems to forget is that Keary is contracted to Souths until end 2014. This means that Souths would have to release him from his current contract.

An injury to our halfback was the reason we were knocked out of the finals last year and our incumbent 5/8 is the 18th Man for Origin on Wednesday night, meaning that their is a very real chance he could be called up before the end of the series.

Under these circumstances, why would we release our contracted back up option?

Keary may very well want to go play for the Dragons or any number of other clubs where he could earn more money and be a starting half, but the fact remains that he is currently under contract to Souths and must be granted a release before he can go anywhere.

As DKOR pointed out they at till this time next year to sort that out. Pretty sure theyll have quite a few players coming off the books this year including Asostasi who will save them a fair bit.

When he is due to be re-signed clubs there will be an extra 1.7 million to work with as well

Clubs won't have an extra $1.7 million IMO.

I'd be stunned if pretty much every player didn't have a salary cap increase clause in their contract.

That money will disappear fast.

Yeah but for example Inglis is on 15% of the cap. Plenty others have % rises as the cap goes up.

You're relying too much on the idea he's under contract.

If he receives a big offer for 2015 , will souths really keep a player around for 2014 in reserve grade ?

I doubt it.

Dont be silly all the clubs get the extra money it will just mean they throw even more at him

And if hes going well so will Souths. They can afford it if he's worth it.

And if theve won/been in a GF and are still in contention for more, well, you know how that scenario usually plays out.
