Souths have first and last offer . How does that work? Does that mean that Manly can't even start talking with him until Souths do?

If Burgess wants to come back to the NRL he must approach Souths first.
Souths can either offer him a contract or not. If not he can go somewhere else and get a contract offer, but when he does he must take it back to Souths and they can either match it or not.

This thread for the next few months:

NRL half -> Manly.

Thank goodness we re-signed Keary and Reynolds when we did. Reynolds would get $1.5m a year in the current crazy market.

As mentioned that is only for the duration of what his souths contract was, so till the end of 2016.

Hasn't Toovey a better gf record than Hasler since Des jumped ship . . . maybe Des needs Toovey to come to the Dogs and run around the field urging them on

He did say Parra cannot now afford Hayne. How the f**k would he know seeing we have over 15 players coming off contract. f**kwit!!!!!

In his defence you still need to fit an entire top 25 under the cap. It's not as simple as just cutting a bunch of players to fit in Hayne. When you have Foran on over a million a season and Hayne no doubt on something similar it really does take out a massive chunk even accounting for the cap rising and some third party dollars.

Very true. The idea of cutting X amount of lower wage players for a marquee signing gets bandied about a lot despite the fact you still have to field a complete roster. With that said, Parra are set to remain competitive in the player market for a while given that we are in a position to cycle out over-priced fringe first graders with solid-to-great talent coming out of the NYC in tandem with fantastic talent in the District Reps.

And before everyone rolls their eyes about other clubs picking out the best of the talent before it gets to that point, we are vastly improved in that area after a massive overhaul of the systems in place.

Darcy Lussick
Chris Sandow
William Hopoate

All supposedly on sizable contracts.
Replace two of them with minimum wage juniors and you might have enough to sign Hayne. Maybe.
