The issue most seem to be forgetting is that even if souffs offload multiple players to bring back burgess, they still need to replace them with the same number of players, albeit on different sized salaries. So moving on Tim Grant and McQueen means you might clear enough cap to bring in Burgess, but you still need to bring in another player due to NRL requirements for squad size. Although it is souffs so being the darlings of the NRL, they might be given a hand up.

Thanks for explaining how the salary cap works

It doesn't matter how many people overseas watch rugby union
That won't change the fact that the game is a load of boring shit.
Look at soccer for example
Utter shit... Most popular game on the planet

just about every bloke that changed from league to union gets a gig playing for their country
Must be virtually no competition

What you think of a code quality wise is irrelevant. That's not what is being debated, as for blokes changing codes and making rep teams... they recruit our top players because they can make it. It's not like they recruit aging players, they recruit quality.

I'd say within Aus, NZ and England their League sides would pump their Union equivalents in a hypothetical cross-code game

Wow... that's stupid beyond belief...

First, while our (NZ) league team is very strong, make no mistake the best talent in NZ plays union - the All Blacks are pretty much an exception to every rule, no other international team in any sport comes close - even in league where there are few nations, the Kangaroos have not always been dominant - the Kangaroos from the 80s until recently :) are an example of what the All Blacks have pretty much always been like in the face of greater competition

Also, the Sam Burgess example (and SBW, Thorn and others) shows that being an elite league player does not immediately make you an elite union player - as SBW and Thorn showed - it takes time.

In contrast, great union players like Michael O'Connor made the transition the other way pretty quickly, as did less stellar ones like Ridge, Halligan, Sherlock, Gourley, Innes, Deveraux etc... the games are different - league simpler, and better imo - but if you actually watched union you'd see some serious talent there (as did league recruiters previously when they could poach)

My understanding is Souths released Luke to upgrade their stars.

Stewart's money is still available but they will have to release 1-2 players. I have heard Tim Grant is a definite to be out.

No idea on the second player.

i love how defensive kiwis get over the great ''All Blacks''

please.

the nz league team would destory them. the wallabies get close to them and sometimes even beat them, the majority of the wallabies (particuarly the forwards) are guys who got dropped from their league sg ball/nyc teams so signed to a super rugby franchise.

joe tamone and taquele naiyaravoro were playing reserve grade for bottom 2 nrl sides. they signed to super rugby and within 12 months were playing for the wallabies. i played league with rob horne when he was a tennager, the guy didnt make any development squads so switched to union and after like 6 club games as an 18 year old was playing for the waratahs.

the difference in athlete the games produce is staggering.

Not about being precious - the Kiwis would beat them at league, but it would be closer than a union game...

The Wallabies don't beat the All Blacks often at all, irrespective of what happens this weekend...

But I reiterate - three of the best league players - S Burgess, SBW, Brad Thorn - were all hugely disappointing in their starts to union... the games are different is really the point, and the specialised skills required for union are not part of league

Talk on the radio this morning is that Dylan Walker would be the one to be moved on by Souths to free up cap room to re-sign Sam Burgess.

So he gets a email from a lawyer & knowing it's not intended for him his first reaction is to broadcast the details of it publicly on twitter and send copies of the contract to whoever asks. This idiot is going to get sued.

Be interesting... but if you want to keep things hush, don't email them to a journalist

I can't believe this is for real...

A contract lawyer dotting the i's and crossing the t's on Taupau's new contract goes to send it to Joe Kelly the Manly CEO, who presumably has an email address something like jkelly@manlywarringahfootballclub.com.au or @seaeagles.com.au or @manlynrl.com.au (you get my drift)....

but instead sends it to jkelly@hotmail.com or @iinet.com or @gmail.com ???????? hoping that it gets to the right bloke????!!!!

It would be akin to sending a hard copy of the contract in the days before email in the post to;

J.Kelly
PO Box 1
[in your capital city]

and hoping it gets to the bloke you meant it to go to!

Utterly ridiculous.

Since the 2003 Rugby World Cup, the All Blacks have a record of 27 wins vs 6 losses against the Wallabies. And they've held the Bledisloe for about 12 straight years. It is barely a contest between the two nations.

The Aussie public probably just think it is a close contest because they hear every Aussie rugby pundit pick the Wallabies to beat them every time. And then they read articles like the one I did the other day where some more Aussie rugby plebs chose a combined team, consisting of 8-10 Wallabies and just 5-7 All Blacks.

The reality is that the All Blacks have been one of the finest sporting teams in the world for years. And the league team, whilst impressive atm, can still only dream of reaching their level of consistent brilliance.
