its not that risky the tigers will be footing most of the bill for the first year and like the rest of the team under sticky he either shapes up or he ships out

The Tigers won't want to be footing the bill for too long, meaning they will expect the other club to pick up most-if-not-all of his contract for the remaining years.

He's a definite risk, but I think it's one worth taking. We need a right edge forward because at the moment our best one is 19 years old, and it's a tough position to play, especially in defence. Anyone defending inside Sandow needs aggression and experience, and Blair has plenty of both.

And the beauty of it is, when Tanginoa proves he's ready for first grade every week we can just shift Blair into the middle.

Aside from the fact that Hock will almost certainly be running off Norman on the left, I think Blair would potentially be awesome running off any merkin.

He's already proven how good he can be. But then again, so has Ben Roberts, and I doubt many clubs are willing to throw big bucks at that merkin for next year.

Yup, i should of said Jarryd, or Chrissy.

He would be good to have next to Sandow in defence, if he wanted to work hard enough.

Have you watched Blair lately????

In a recent game, in 80 minutes played, he had 4 hit ups and 7 missed tackles. f**king unheard of.

We've had our fair share of mediocre players, not sure we require another.

People who make their money for being famous should be held to a higher standard.

OK that clears up why people are so disappointed in Paris Hilton and Linsay Lohan.
But seriously - no they shouldn't. These are all very unrealistic expectations and especially when they are placed on people in their 20's or less. It's societies way of pretending that people in general aren't f**ked up and are more perfect than they really are. Most of the perfect role models would just be the ones better at keeping their faults a secret.
How many people lose their license and get suspended from their job for a couple of weeks unless they need their license for work, or get sacked for letting a dog lick their balls? Sure it's stupid behaviour but it's time for society to accept the responsibility itself.
I don't teach my kids to look up to these people just because they play sport or are famous. I brought them into the world and it's my responsibility to be the role model. Handing that responsibility over to teachers, athletes, movie stars or anyone else is a cop out IMO.

Well he sure does know his stuff, and looks at the evidence and almost always puts forward a good argument.

Repeat offender in my eyes too.
Has also been disciplined for alcohol related incidents by the Cowboys before.

Suity

That's between him and the Cowboys and he may have crossed the line but it shouldn't have anything to do with Origin selection.

not fussed about Mullaney

we should be raising the bar

Mullaney is a reserve grader, surely we have someone better than him coming through the grades???

Precisely

Not sure what he would cost to resign (and hopefully it aren't to much, definitely a lot less then $150k) but with Roberts and Kelly on the outer maybe the thinking behind resigning him, is to have a back up in the halves (he does play 5/8) with at least some NRL experience. It's not like the under 20's have a half that could play some nrl if required.

I'm not sure Mullaney has played in the halves for us?

If the thought process is to shift Hayne to half to cover any injuries I'm still confused? We have Hoppa and Norman who are both NRL quality FBs (Mullaney is far from it). And, frankly, we're better served signing a backup half if that's what we're looking for!

I reckon peg the money at a talented young bloke who can play on the wing. We've got the worst wingers in the comp, we're well served next for fullbacks, and have decent depth in the centers should we need to do some shuffling.

So lost on why we're bothering with a 23 year old bloke who plays under 6s quality defence....

I do.

If any money we have left/free up is used to put toward building for the future, i'm all for it, or even another player that could be brought over before June 30 for the remainder of this season and beyond.

Sticky may or may not care about the spoon, but it means alot to alot of fans. Although, if we get it again i will less dissapointed than last year because i know the future is looking brighter and brighter.

The other thing, of course, is that while you're blooding young players and building for the future, you need a reasonable amount of on-field success in order to keep them motivated and confident, and to keep team morale as high as possible. If we just wrote this year off and said, "Oh, well, getting the wooden spoon isn't any worse than coming ninth", the players would be pretty dispirited, and could become demoralised, lose faith in the coach, etc, etc. etc. It's not rocket science. It happened to Stephen Kearney.

If you want to fill your squad whilst remaining under the cap then every club needs reserve graders.

Besides, Hopoate will probably be backup fullback next year. Mullaney will (probably) be our third choice.

I'd say if we're looking to retain Mullaney it's because he'll accept minimum salary.
Yeah but we could also sign a Brassington or Makleim*spelling on minimum wage and they may have plenty more upside than a 75kg fullback who doesn't offer much bar a bit of toe.

That's true.

I dare say, a player like Soward, who has played Origin, won a premiership etc, could pass on some good advice to our younger players too. Even if he was to be there for less than half a season.
