we we are not really that far away from Penrith

Geographically? Or in the rebuilding phase? I can see us really challenging next year with some more quality signings like penrith are doing. Then we will be able to snap up some more for 2015

Do you think we could be in the running mate?

If Vai Toutai is our future Im not getting excited. We certainly cannot afford to carry him and Sio in the same team.

I'm not sure if he's our future or not but the kid is 19 and still has improvement left in him, in fact even cheyse Blair could turn out to be a very handy outside back.. We need to cut him and others some slack until the next year or 2... In saying that one of the problems I see is that we're lacking genuine pace outside and I hope we address it soon

Any 19 year old has improvement in them the is even if they do improve they could still be fringe first graders at best. The problem with Vai, Sio and co is that their weaknesses are obvious and even in their early days if they cannot catch a bomb and lack pace and basic finishing skills it doesnt suggest they'll have a strong future in the game.

We also lack seriously under the high ball; cannot even mark up one on one in defence; and don't really offer enough out of dummy half or on kick returns (although vai and duo were good in that department against the broncs).

They can be fringe first graders or rep quality....

How ordinary Manu Vatavai in his first year of first grade?

Put simply for 2014, so far the only genuine first grade outside backs we have contracted is Hopoate and Loko (who is more of a back rower). Hopefully we re sign Morgan soon cause I want to see Loko moved into the back row.

Sio, Vai and Blair are all reserve graders at this point of their careers, they might develop into genuine first graders at some point but for now they just arn't ready.

I'm hoping we are looking for a couple of outside backs!

Vai has great tackle busting ability though.

Prob a centre more than a winger too.

He's done some very good things in between some ordinary ones so I certainly wouldn't be writing him off at his age.

He's played centre pretty much every day of his life, and despite what some may say, playing centre and winger is not interchangeable. He's still learning to play winger.

Sio...Well, he has some speed, is a good runner out of dummy-half, and can score a try, but he can't catch a bomb and his tackling technique is a average.

Agree. Vai has impressed me with his leg drive. He will always bend the line and gobble up a few extra metres. The try vs Penrith where he carried a bunch of pigs for 15m is enough for me to say that the kid has potential.
