He’s started his career as a tall, rangy centre but has been converted in an edge backrower, I don’t particularly rate him and at 26 I’m not sure how much upside he has.

No confirmation the new winger is top 30 though, is there? So one NRL spot remaining by my count. But I could be wrong on both counts. And regardless there still won't be any confidence in the club recognising how desperately we need a real number 9.

I’ve not seen him but reports are he’s going great this year. Could be a late bloomer and if he can offer as much or more than brodie Jones I’m happy for now.

Bear in mind back row isn’t exactly the strongest area in our squad either. Also not having a backup hooker doesn’t just mean we put all other signings on hold either.

I mean it's pretty reasonable. How long since they earned the right to the benefit of any doubt whatsoever?

For my own sanity the default for the last decade or so regarding our club has been assume the worst. They rarely seem to let me down, and I'm saner and happier for it.

My favourite recently has been when we failed so badly at chasing Luke Brooks for 2 years that it flipped an entire 360 - and we actually failed our way upwards into a better signing.

Hell, even our "successes" like re-signing Ponga do their best to end up as failures.

Honestly, I don't expect us to be competitive again in any true sense, there's just that glimmer of hope left that maybe one day it'll happen. It'll take a lot of very random things going very right for us I think. Another Joey maybe.
