How does the city of Newcastle in general feel about the club?

Not like they used to.

The thing that should concern the club the most is that kids don't give a shit about the knights, and why would they when they've been so bad for so long.

You see way more European soccer jerseys on school aged kids than knights, who seem as popular as the Sydney big bash league sides

I’d say the general support is at it’s lowest since the spoon years. Think Ponga’s arrival to go along with Pearce, Watson, Klemmer etc brought the excitement back pretty quickly, but after sitting through 3 spoons for a plan that was apparently going to bring sustained success I think people are pretty disillusioned with where it’s gotten us. Seems like we’re right back at square one of a rebuild now without any success to look back on and no clear path forward.

All that said; Newcastle has shown time and time again it desperately wants to care about the Knights, the Knights just don’t give them any reason to. Don’t think it’ll take long for the feeling to be restored when the team finally gives the city a reason to be excited.

Honestly, I was saying this 15 years ago. We've lost more than 1 generation now.

And on topic, I don't want to see the Safs or Best go.

And it is absolutely damning on the club that we would even have to consider it given a large number of our top 30 next year will be kids with no or very little NRL experience.

We are actually going backwards on a lot of metrics next year, yet apparently have no money and have no top 30 slots. Its mental.
Remarkable state of affairs isn't it. It's groundhog day. Another squad of lazy, entitled shits. Another salary cap crisis. Another rebuild. It's the same old shit over and over again.

I dunno if we live to see another premiership, old boy. Better start taking my vitamins...

I don’t think the public opinion is any worse or better than any time over the last 15 years to be fair.

We’re miles and miles behind the halcyon days though. I swear the day Joey retired so did half our fan base.

I can remember 2 periods where there was a buzz again. The later Smithy years had something going on about them, we all felt like we were putting it together again. The 2013 finals run with Bennett was the other.

Everything else has been a total dumpster fire.

I think half the problem is that a lot of fans are too loyal both to the club but more so to the players.
There’s still this family mentality for the local boys and players who’ve been around for a while no matter how bad said player has performed.
If Crossland played for the broncos most fans would be calling for him to be dropped or released, if you went on any of the knights fans group on Facebook and made that suggestion you’d get torn to shreds and accused of being a blow in and not supporting the boys.
I think the team has been so bad for so long most fans don’t even know what success is anymore so they don’t yearn for it.

I honestly don't venture outside of LU, is it really like this?

We'll go no where if people are accepting of below average standards. I might get grilled for setting the bar too high sometimes, but I'd rather be aiming for that than accepting of less.

It’s bad, there’s no room for any criticism, the typical response ranges from outright abuse and threats of physical violence to the old “I’d like to see you do better”

Knights facebook fan pages are seriously embarrassing, even moreso considering people are posting these opinions with their real names. The general flavour is pLaY mOrE lOcAl BoYs because they will try hard and bleed red n blu. Basically there are a lot of fans that want a team of Crosslands to support.

Meaney should never have been let go. But then again this is the club who chose Matt Johns over Noddy as his brother’s halves partner. Noddy could have been five eighth. Easily.

Taking anything Woosh says seriously is your first mistake. Looking forward to the random instagram photo of Frizell hanging out with a Tigers player to back up his claims. Should be easy to find one of him with Klemmer surely?

Well…

Wests Tigers are considering making a play for Newcastle veteran Tyson Frizell who is on the cusp of an Origin recall.

The Tigers will have about $500,000 salary cap freed up next year as soon as they allow Joe Ofahengaue to join the Eels immediately. The decision to grant Ofahengaue a release from the remaining two-and-a-half years of his contract has now opened the door for the club to potentially make a move for Frizell who is off-contract at the end of the season.

500k isn't that much anymore these days and I'd be happy to see Frizz resign for 2 years on 500k!

Lowballing an actual good player who puts in every week whilst handing out contracts to total plodders for the fun of it is typical Newcastle.

I don’t think the club can consider asking Friz to stay for less. He deserves at minimum his current deal if as reported it is 700 k a year.

Sigh... We're in a damned if we do, damned if we don't situation with Friz. Let's be honest, he hasn't played to his contract value except for this year - a contract year. Sadly this is all too familiar as a knights fan. Do we give him a bag and hope he respects it enough to perform like contract year moving forward?

A good team would probably let him walk. I dunno if we have such luxury.
