Rumoured Targets 3

They’ve just signed two young fullbacks

I reckon one of Sharks or Dragqueens
They have one of the most highly touted young halves in their system right now as well as a young 7 who was going well for them, and that didn't stop them from signing Galvin.

If Gus had the chance to put Ponga in those colours he would move mountains, you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. And there would be strong arguments in favour of them doing that, they're a very good side arguably missing just that little bit extra to take them right over the top...

Meh. Our best juniors are all fullbacks anyway (Sharpe, Hunt, Votano). Let him go and let's sign a proper hooker and halfback.

They are better on the field, but the Sharks are a bin fire off it.
In what sense? They look like a really well run club to me. Huge % of their roster is internally developed. Always seem to have very good depth. Am I missing something there?

Could be wrong but I would bet on him landing in the Holbrook camp.

Yeh unless he pretty much comes out and admits he wants out ala David Fifita, then you've got to give the backline a year or two with a re-tooled forward pack to show something.

Unless we get offered some quality players in return it makes very little sense to grant him a release now with very little to spend it on. Any good players coming off contract are just going to have their value inflated by Perth offering massive overs come Nov 1 so dont want to be caught in too many of those bidding wars.

If we reach the halfway point of next year and are still a bottom 4 side and not overly competitive, then I think youd seriously consider putting the feelers out for player swaps at the end of the season to strengthen positions of need while we still have a year on the contract as a bargaining chip. While if we are in amongst the top 8, you allow the combinations to continue to gel until it comes time to renegotiate the contract.

I get the idea though. In THEORY (note I don't want KP to leave), you let him walk, move Sharpe and have an excellent replacement immediately but now you're also the most cashed up for when someone pops up because he's right.. With enough cash some one always does.

I smell BS. The Sharks already have two players on over $1mill.

Maybe they'll swap him for Nicho 😮

Then Fletcher can go back to FB, and we can play a fullback in the halves...

Wait a minute...

But in all seriousness, if theres a way to get Nicho's contract restructured and the sharks to pay some of it, what would be better.

1. Ponga @ 1.4 until 2027
6. Brown @ 1.3 until 2035
7. Sharpe @ whatever he is on until 2028

Or

1. Sharpe @ whatver he is on until 2028
6. Brown @ 1.3 until 2035
7. Nicho @ say 800-900k until 2029

Im not sure. Guess it would depend what you spend the saved money on. And if you believe Nicho can get over his case of the yips in big games. And at the end of the day, he isnt really an elite organising half despite wearing the 7 so im not sure it moves the needle much other than freeing up some cap to have a more balanced squad.

At full price though, I wouldnt pull the trigger. If you had to do a swap would be better going after trindall or brailey.

But at the end of the day, its hard seeing Ponga go anywhere other than a big club for a shot at a premiership and/or some juicy 3rd party deals.
