Just because we sign players up for nsw cup doesn't mean that's one less spot we can fill in our NRL squad. These players would either be on minimum wage or on a second tier salary.

Looking at the club at all levels has long term benefits rather than a quick fix at NRL level.

Heighington won't be on a second tier deal.

The Knights won the NSW Cup in 2015. All that excellent depth definitely helped in the 2016 campaign. Signing NSW Cup level players just means you have more NSW Cup players.

lol ok mate

Keep whinging about the club doing what every club is doing ie filling out roster spots in all grades

If by rd1 next year we have no other decent signings on board then I'll join you

What harm is there in signing nsw cup players though?

As I said, it's not like signing nsw cup players prevents us signing NRL players when they become available.

Not sure why it is in any way an issue.

We already have good depth- half of the guys who played first grade this year should be back in NSW Cup next year. Now we need to work on getting the quality in first grade so we aren't forced to play them each week and they get the chance to develop in the lower grades.

Picking up a player like Heighington hopefully means we aren't playing with Josh King as a starting front rower.

don't think so. Daniel Saifiti has him covered easily. Even mataora is better. Fifita is so good he couldn't find any clubs interested in Australia and shipped out to esl

I don't think David Fifita would make our starting side but might get a spot on the bench. He'd be a depth signing more than anything I think. Only I don't see why he'd sign with us if he wasn't expecting at least a spot in the 17 each week. Not much point from his perspective in signing to play NSW cup when he could stay in ESL and get a starting gig every week.

he was in first grade to start this year, was playing well and then got a staph infection.
then he left in,,,
mysterious circumstances. IMO

something went on. dunno what. cant have been lack of playing time he was first on the depth chart to come back into the team if someone got hurt.

anyway, he's not a bad player.

I'd take Fifita as a project player. Why not? Canberra just took Dave Taylor. They reached a semi final by rolling the dice.

If us having David increases the chances of Andrew coming here next time his contract is up then I'm all for it

It would be a big deal if we got Andrew purely based on his ability but the guy is a massive grub and I'm not convinced that he would bring a good attitude to the team either.

Also he's just won a premiership with the Sharks so I don't know why he would be motivated to come here anyway and if he did it would presumably be for a sizeable paycheque.

Gotta say it, makes me a little hard thinking about a front row rotation of the Fafita's and Safiti's. Highly unlikely, but dare to dream. The other brother, Latu. Is it right we're looking at him also? Not that I've ever heard of him.
