Actually I just noticed on Toohey's twitter others have started asking about Watson. Maybe playing the Roosters has sparked the same idea in a few of us.

Been a big fan of Watson for a while. He's great mates with the Saifiti's and Tom Starling from our under 20's too which could be a lure for him. Roosters have no reason to release him though.

Just watching the Cows game: I'm really excited to get Ponga. Still has a heap to learn but he looked dangerous pretty much every time he was near the ball. Something we haven't had in a while.

He's got a lot of room to improve defensively, but yeah he looks like a special player in attack. Should bring some class to our spine which we're greatly lacking.

Didn't get a chance to watch it but the stats say that he made a couple of line breaks and plenty of metres. Was it a lot of broken play stuff or did he manage to get through a set line?

One where he took the line on himself and broke through, almost had another like that right on half time as well but he dropped the ball. The other break was off someone putting him into a gap.

A little snippet from weidlers column in tomorrow's sun herald:
Debate has been raging about exactly how much the Broncos will pay Bird. Brisbane have been hosing down the price because they fear what they are going to need to pay off-contract stars Darius Boyd and Anthony Milford.

My sources tell me the original offer was $800,000 for year one, $850,000 for year two and $900,000 in the third year. That was knocked back by Bird's management. Until I see the contract, I will believe my sources who say Bird was eventually paid $950,000 for three years. In year four the deal is for $1.2million, and the option for that fourth year is in Bird's favour.

That matches the $4 million for four years I was told after the deal was done. That's a long way from the original figure the Broncos were feeding to the local media of $700,000 a year for three years. A star Bronco would have accepted that without thinking twice.

Brisbane are now trying to change the focus of the media by saying the Sharks shouldn't have put out a statement saying Brisbane had signed him. Brisbane don't need their players wondering why they aren't on "Bird money". It has the potential to be distracting and take the focus off their season.

Boyd has the right to feel he should be the highest paid player at the club. And despite internal pressure for Milford to do a deal, his agent, Sam Ayoub, is not in a rush.

Bird wasn't Wayne Bennett's only choice. The Broncos coach made a very sneaky play to try to snatch brilliant young fullback Kalyn Ponga. He was being sold Boyd's fullback position.
It is Weidler so taking with a million billion grains of salt, but still have to wonder if Wayne jumping in so late in negotiations to trump us was because he was salty that Ponga wasn't willing to sell his soul to the devil

I hope that is why he went all in on Bird. He got the wrong player for the wrong position. If he overpaid and means that he needs to overpay Milford and Boys in the next few years then serves him and the Broncos right.

From Toohey's article today;

Brown had already talked to Foran before the Bird decision was made. Something that could work in our favour is his kids live on the Northern Beaches of Sydney and he has family (including his mother) living on the Central Coast.

Ben Matulino spent Tuesday night/Wednesday in Newcastle this week and had a look around the city, before travelling to Sydney and holding talks with the Tigers on Thursday. He had surgery on both knees over the off-season so Knights won't even consider tabling an offer until they can get a favourable medical assessment on him.

Also says James Graham's future at the Bulldogs is still clouded despite assurances from Des to the media.

Foran and James would do it. How much would James ask for? If wecthrow Mullen and Hokko money at them, will it be enough?

Toohey usually doesn't speak out of turn and there is plenty in that article hinting the club is starting to see Hodkinson as a problem and he may be on the way out.

Seriously, a fit and committed Keiran Foran plus 2 very good props would be incredible for this side.

Would be ecstatic with that.
