Lets not buy into this too much; there's little in it to be concerned about. Club has time to resign him, we've got cash to splash regardless of the signings we make anytime soon and the bloke wants to remain at the club. Ross is likely just seeing what he's worth and I'm sure Brown and Mooney are aware and have been aware for some time.

I've said for the longest time what Spot On said, what Kent said; players are going to have to be shed, clubs overspent. Why rush to resign Ross now with no management of the side we might have in 2019/2020? Front end, back end, flat; I'm sure we'll be hearing a new signing - fresh or resign - every week for f**king months soon enough.

Just need a little tranquillo.

The reality is that centre and wing are going to be the lowest paid positions in the NRL. We have decided that we won't spend $700K out of $8.1M on one centre - and fair enough too - we won't be chasing Chambers, and we won't be overpaying for Rossdog.

The RLPA want a $10mil cap next year. The NRL want $9mil.

This is why it's taking so long. The RLPA are just greedy f**kwits holding it all up.

I think the NRL then bumped it up to $9.14 mil, that still wasn't enough for the
RLPA.

f**k the RLPA, how much power do they have in these negotiations?

I would think the only power the RLPA would have is the same as a union, strike action. Let them strike if they aren't happy with it I say.

Article in the Newcastle Herald this morning about the Ross situation. I'm on a phone so hard to post the whole thing but here's the link:

http://www.theherald.com.au/story/4670101/in-form-knights-winger-says-pay-me-whats-fair/#slide=1

A few quotes from Ross. The crux is he is on 150K a year but(correctly) thinks his status has risen within the squad since he signed that. "Not asking for a million dollars like everyone else or even half of that." He says he loves Newcastle the club and place but has big clubs sniffing around him now and has to make hay while the sun shines.

If I'm the Knights I get him in the office today and offer him 250-300K and extend his contract by a year or two, and hopefully all parties are happy. I would consider that "what's fair" which I think is what he's trying to get across.

Disappointing this has to go public though. Players who feel they are underpaid from all clubs will start going this avenue I fear after this week.

Also surely there are some companies in Newcastle that would be keen to have Rossdog flog their products. Think the Honeybadger(Nick Cummins) from rugby union.

Ross or the way he's gone about it?

Love the Dog and he should be upgraded absolutely no doubt. If we don't give it to him someone else will.

However, it gives me great confidence in Brown and Mooney that they signed him at that price and at that time.

Previous cheque book signatories would have had him on 2 and half times as much after 2 decent games.

Pissing off our best and most hardworking player of the last 18 months when we're miles under the cap in 2017 is brilliant management? I know people think perception is irrelevant but for me, it's not a good look.

Not that Ross should be airing dirty laundry in public. Also poor form.

Did Ross agree to and sign his last contract or did someone hold a gun to his head?

What are you going on about? Mate, stay away from that other forum, the propaganda, panic and shortsightedness in there is making you paranoid.

IF the club had a chance to sort this out before it hit the papers and didn't then I would agree the club has handled it poorly. But there is every chance that Ross knows going public applies the most pressure.

I doubt the club is as sinister as @slotmachine is suggesting and trying to squeeze him. Brown is no idiot and will know the value that Ross provides and I think will want to deal in good faith.

I think $275k - $300k for another 2 years would be a fair deal for Ross. He's one of the best players at our club and consistently performs above his current pay packet. If he's expecting more than $300k I'd be surprised, any more than $350k is overs imo.
