So if Watson plays 5/8 and goes bad do we keep playing him because we guaranteed his position.
If Esse comes based on starting position rather than bench and is no good or others are better do we keep starting with him.
Every player has to earn spot, no guarantee is guaranteed, its up to them. The position is open for them to grab it.

Obviously they get first crack and it is theirs to lose.

Players with options will want to know what the plan is before they sign.

Yes, doesn't mean Lamb, Feeney, cogger are out, just more competition for spots.
Same as buying a prop or two could mean Saifiti boys are back to reserves, again competition for spots.

I really doubt the Saifitis or at the very least Dan will ever be back in reserve grade

Souths sure gave Gags and Rochow some special kool aid with them signing there for a shot at a premiership. They're really no closer than we are.

Did u watch yesterday? They are as bad as us with an aging roster and a full cap. Maguire needs to be moved on.

At least the only way is up for us. I fear they still have some way to fall....

The Mole reckons Parra have joined the race for Latu and will match any offer the Knights or Warriors make. If that's actually the case you'd think he'll opt to stay in Western Sydney.

Newcastle sign Tautau Moga

The nib Newcastle Knights are pleased to confirm centre Tautau Moga has signed a three-year contract, commencing in 2018.

Moga made his NRL debut in 2012, playing for the Sydney Roosters before linking with the North Queensland Cowboys in 2014 and the Brisbane Broncos in 2017.

The 23-year-old has played 49 NRL matches.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Tautau to the Knights next season,” CEO Matt Gidley said.

“Tautau is an athletic and exciting outside back and he will be a great addition to our squad.”

Moga joins Kalyn Ponga and Aidan Guerra at the Club in 2018, while Shaun Kenny-Dowall has arrived at the Club mid-season.

“We continue to build our squad for next season and beyond and plan to have further announcements over the coming weeks,” Gidley concluded.

We'll see what happens if Brown and Mooney give him the Newcastle sell, he might be up for a change? Maybe living near the beach instead of Western Sydney will be something he feels strongly about?

He'd be a solid signing to get, it would mean we'd have a prop rotation of Saifiti x2, Ese'ese & Latu in our top 17 next year which would be a lot better than what we've got now.

While I see a decent potential in Moga, I hope his past injury woes are behind him and we get a very serviceable big, athletic body in the backs.

I know it doesn't fly with everybody on here but assuming he hasn't cost us a lot of coin, I'd actually like to see him as a wing option for us and still maintain holding on to Pete Mat as a Centre for us, at least for 2018....for mine, on his performance in the backs as part of a poorly performing squad this year, I'd actually like to see if Pete continues to step up again when we have a stronger performing back line with better halves service.

1 Ponga
2 Moga
3 SKD
4 Pete Mat
5 Ross
6 Watson
7 Lamb

Back up in the form of Elliott, Meaney, Chanel and I actually liked what I saw in Tom Hughes in the reggies on the weekend to say we have some talent and depth coming through to keep all these honest as well

Yeah, I know....I just think he has been one of the few really solid and consistent players for us this season. I also still think he is first grade standard, would be a good depth player for this team next year and don't reckon he'd cost us too much coin.

Let's put it this way, I'd much prefer to hang on to Pete than to have been railroaded in to having Pat on our books next year:(

I like the idea of holding on to Pete for at least one more year, keep strong backups in case of injury etc, most backs in reserves are basically wingers filling in.

Keeping Pete would be fantastic. Big fast talented backline. But if he is asking for way more money then knights want to offer them fair enough letting him go, as long as they have a good replacement for him they can buy that's cheaper... i don't see any solid replacements in our current squad.

If no-one else on market I'd go with.

1. Ponga
2. SKD
3. Ross
4. Moga
5. Elliot

Resigning Elliot gives Hughes and Meaney an extra year to progress in lower grades and be slowly introduced to FG. Whilst also having Chanel and Sio. In fact I'd probably swap Sio with Elliot. Yeah Sio in for Elliot but still resign Elliot for 1-2years as injury cover.

I reckon Heath Gibbs from under 20's could be a smoky to play a good chunk of first grade next year. He's a big, athletic outside back which seems to be what Brown likes and he's already talked him up earlier this year.

I cant ever see Elliott being apart of a premiership winning side. Honestly, he is utter shit and people seem to give him a free pass around here because he's a relatively fast runner.

If we resign Pete, Elliott will be competing with;

Ross, SKD, Pete, Chanel, Moga, Ponga, Sio, Meaney, Hughes and any other signings we make before 2018.
I don't know about ya'll but the first 7 players I named are much better footballers than Elliott while Meaney and Hughes have big wraps on them.

If the club resigns Elliott and not Pete I will be pissed (unless Pete is asking for over double what Elliott wants).

I'd be willing to give Pete some overs to keep him here. As others have said, he ads some quality depth and competition to the back line. I won't be devastated to lose him though.
