Quick recap of Mann's game today:

46 metres, 0 offloads, 0 linebreaks, 11 tackles, 1 tackle break and 1 missed tackle.

Clearly the stats of an elite player. Can see why whoosh is desperate for his side to sign him...he's better than the entire broncos backline

Hahahahaha bet you’re riding Brown’s d now for signing Mann

Considering our coach was a hooker in his career, I’m willing to back his judgement on trying to make a hooker out of Mann. Maybe sees attiributes in Kurt that he likes

100% Slots.

It's clear nearly ever player Brown has used has not filled the bill - and many actually played most of their footy in the dummy half position.Groff has come the closest so far.

Does he actually want an 80 min dummy half????

I honestly think he'd settle for someone who defends and wrestles well in the middle and provides quick service to Pearce. Also someone who isn't prone to selfish plays and brain explosions. Seems like a simple ask to me, but Griffin the only one up to it thus far.

Taupau anyone?

I know he's said he doesn't want to live sydney supposedly but apparently him and des hasler clashed at the bulldogs. Klemmer set to be 28 and Kurt Mann 29 of our squad of thirty. Oh what I'd give for Taupau to be number 30.

Mann has been around long enough to show his ability, if it's hooker he would have played a bit more can't turn him into one at this stage, it's Levi or Woolford with Buhrer as bench relief until Griff is back, if we have Klemmer and Mann we are done unless number 30 is an exceptional player but most likely a versatile back

This is going to be fun to watch.

Browny now pinning his future on Mann to hooker makes zero sense at all.

He must be one hell of a defender with quick service? Can anyone confirm?

Yes, well if Klemmer does come and Ponga has switched to 6, I certainly don't want a nuffie dummy half with service any slower than Griffin. Pearce will be farkin livid with that shit and so will supporters.

We'd be the only club in the comp brave enough (if you could sell it that way) to buy a utility back to play starting hooker. Especially now that the coach has the squad he wants and results will now definitely determine his near future employment.

Either that or I have grossly overestimated the demands of dummy half play in the modern game. Sort of contradicts our past few seasons with countless blokes not good enough to secure the gig though.

Anyway, fingers crossed it works out and Mann finds a position to finally suit him. If Levi is seen only as an impact hooker then Mann must be good enough for 2 stints each week. Will be some sort of coaching performance if Brown can pull it off

If our plan is to start Mann at 9 for the year then I'm very concerned.

There is a gulf in quality between natural dummy halves and manufactured ones.

Commentators loved Peter Wallace but his pass selection and timing of his runs, especially when near the try line left a lot to be desired.

How is making an opportunistic signing pinning his future on it?

It's not costing us any players we want. We aren't turning down a different player for him.

Best-case scenario he turns out to be a good hooker.

Worst-case scenario he is a good utility back as we already know he is.

What's all this talk of Brown going through a merry go round of hookers anyway?

Levi, Griffin who got injured, and who?

Pinning his future might be strong, but if Brown's new contract is performance based - potentially using half a season to trial a player in a crucial position is risky. If it's finals or bust next year, Mann starting hooker for 8+ games leaves bust as a heavy favourite.

Signing Mann is just adding another option to what we already have.

My guess is if Mann and Woodford don't come on as hoped then Levi will get the spot.

Signing Mann doesn't reduce our existing options, and there are no better options on the market right now.

If Mann starts and it clearly isn't working and Brown persists with him then yeah I'll agree but I don't think that's gonna happen.

I just think there's a lot of hand-wringing in here over nothing.
