I'm happy to have a coach back himself and try something different. Sick and tired of our club being so far behind the curve all these years. Watching Cook play, it's easy to see he isn't as natural a dummy half as Cam Smith but offers some lightning fast service out of dummy half and doesn't do anything stupid. If Mann could follow that mould, I'd have him in a heart beat over Levi.

It seems Woolford has some good wraps. Mann, Levi and Woolford is a good rotation at hooker as we're going to get. What other options are there?

As JM said, we aren't losing anything by signing Mann. The recruitment has been spot on these past few years and I can't find a reason to be worried about the Mann signing.

Brown's idea could work but you gotta remember, this is the same guy that thought Feeney to fullback and then Ross as a roaming bench player were good ideas once upon a time lol

Just on the DummyHalf rotation, im still sad we never got to see Mullen have a decent crack at it....

He could throw a ball like a bullet and could kick like no one else in the team. His best moments were easily when he would get a standing offload and run at a broke line with support (perfect talent for a Hooker). Really his only failing was that he couldnt do structured set (the basics for a first receiver).

I think he would have been the answer to Brownys quest for a DummyHalf convert.

I’d rather have a coach who will employ left-field ideas than what we used to cop with Rick Stone who basically posted a copy/paste team sheet each week with no accountability for performance.

I reckon it's positive that we have options. We can try things out in training and see how it goes knowing we have plans B and C.
Mann seems to fit a utility role to me except for experience at hooker.
I see Levi as being an impact player because he tends to go in bursts and goes flat after a while. He could learn.
Much of our team will need to compete with each other at training and, if they show promise, they'll then need to convert it onto the field.
We know injuries will hit us so the more options we have the better.
It's a good problem that we are hassling about who to play where and who to leave out.

I watched 3 games from 2012 a few nights ago that we won. Mullen was sensational. The team was well established and known to us but I reckon on paper we have more going for us this year.
Uate was also a gun in those three games.

How is making an opportunistic signing pinning his future on it?

It's not costing us any players we want. We aren't turning down a different player for him.

Best-case scenario he turns out to be a good hooker.

Worst-case scenario he is a good utility back as we already know he is.

What's all this talk of Brown going through a merry go round of hookers anyway?

Levi, Griffin who got injured, and who?

Didn't guys like Feeney, Yates, Pearsall, Hazard, Bhana train and have-a-go in the position??? Levi can't make the grade. Now it's a utility back's go.

You don't think Brown needs to make the 8 to keep his job?

Worst case scenario, Brown wastes weeks of the season trying to make something work that won't. Again, I hope he kills it but why use a bloke who hasn't played the position is hard to understand. Why you'd f**k around with a utility back to start the season as your starting dummy half is hard to understand unless the Brown knows something we don't.

Thought we were well past that now. The spine is fairly important to the team, I'd rather a guy that has actually played the position a few times to be my starting dummy half. Especially at NRL level.

If you had the choice, would you honestly recruit Mann to be your starting hooker? Really?

if my first and second choice hookers were young fellas ( woolford and Levi ) and not 80 min hookers - rather than fill a top 30 roster with 3 hookers my 3rd would be a utility that could fill in. We would have Buhrer and Mann as possibilities.

Yes, but if Klemmer signs don't you think we have better players in nearly every position than Stone had? Plus more depth. Brown doesn't need to employ left-field ideas anymore.

Feeney fast and strong????

Sorry PG, from what I saw at NRL level I could never agree with that. For mine, he lacked all traits I listed and is why he didn't cut it. Maybe in reggies.
