Brown’s charisma pays off again.

Players want to play for him, he sells the town and he empowers the ones we need to get on board. He’s made water into wine with this roster.

Means no excuses on the field this year and I hope we’re ready for it.

We’ve definitely got attack in us. I might be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that we have the highest percentage of converting sets that start in the oppositions 20m into points. Or something like that

Very excited with Klemmer signing but worried about defence and goal kicking. Maybe our improved squad, less injuries will improve our overall game allowing not so tired players to make tackles when required.

The main reason our defence has been so poor is because we’ve been getting steamrolled in the middle for such a long time so we’re always on the back foot and conceding way too many metres which also affects our line speed. In turn our backs have to squeeze closer to the middle of the field to cover the holes in the middle of our ruck and teams then just need to spread the ball wide to catch us out of position and score.

The additions of Klemmer and Glasby will definitely help in this area. These two will be better at slowing the ruck speed of the opposition pack and hopefully being able to lock up the ball to prevent offloads. This will mean our boys aren’t using as much fuel in defence and will hopefully be more effective in controlling the ruck meaning our edges aren’t being dragged in field.

Good defensive coaching will definitely play it’s part but just having a forward pack that doesn’t get bullied by other teams will help massively.

"Klemmer did not hide his admiration for Brown. He told of how he and Woods sought out Brown in the 2015 NSW Blues Origin camp, where he was an assistant to Laurie Daley.

"He knows his footy... so we (he and Woods) just chewed his ear off about players, about rugby league. He's been around for a while. Every now and then we see each other so we've always kept a good relationship.

"I'm just super excited to play underneath him. I'm always learning and I think he can keep me on my toes."

Just watched the press conference.

He made the decision for his family and he can’t wait to introduce himself to the boys and rip in.

Same answer to every question. It was a press conference Marshawn Lynch would have been proud of.

Still don't know if swapping Kalyn and Connor is the right move, but a couple of Connor's best games with the Roosters were at fullback. One game in particular against Melbourne he carved them up.

He'll catch kicks and run back at 100mph and get the team on the front foot more often than not. He'll constantly be around the play looking for offloads and he can run when he gets some space. His passing game as a half is underdeveloped but he has enough to make it work. With big, strong centres like Ramien & Moga (injury permitting) I imagine they'll be seeing a lot more early ball directly from the halves rather than the sweep plays regardless so Connor will be able to focus more on his strength, which is popping up where he needs to be and running.

I think there's a lot to be optimistic about with Connor at fullback.

I’m fine with Watson going to fullback, his game suits it imo and I think he’ll do well there. I just hope Ponga doesn’t get targeted too much in the front line, hopefully he doesn’t have to make too many tackles which could take the edge off his attack.

The club needs to push more of what the town has to offer. I've noticed they have in the last couple of years.

I remember having that exact conversation with a former Knights CEO at Valentine Bowlo about 10 years ago. I think they have always tried to sell the town but it hasn't quite found an audience. Not helped by the constant problems off the field (and on it for that matter).

Newcastle has grown up a lot in the past 10 years, and Sydney in particular has gone down the toilet.

Even something as simple as the Supercars really sells the town. It looks spectacular on the broadcast.

We are on the map as a desirable place to live now, it has finally clicked.

If Ponga is the 6 we think he can be, he will help cover Pearce a lot if Pearce gets injured.

Watson at 6 with Pearce injured leaves us short.

With Widdop requesting a release for the dragons I wonder if that ruins Newcastle’s chances of getting Mann. I’d expect they’d only agree to release him now if they land Shaun Johnson or a similarly marquee signing.
