Rumoured Targets 3

I think the timing of all this makes the club look bad.

IF Klemmer has done something pretty ordinary then I would commend the club on taking a stance and not tolerating any crap.

It just seems so odd, 24-hours after they had lengthy discussions to loan him out to Parra, and then to announce this AFTER he was left out of today's team line-up announcement.

To me it sounds like yesterday's discussions went sour and this is the fallout.
Show Cause notices in a work place are about as serious as it gets. It is essentially show us why you should not be sacked.

If this is an ongoing problem it should have been dealt with before.
If Coach was not happy with Klem then he had the power to bench him at start of game or drop him.
Hard to understand why he wasn’t at least selected in 17 and then dropped if not suitably dealt with by Friday.

The one thing that continually annoys me about this competition is when players and clubs have fall outs, there is absolutely no reconciliation skills at all. It is usually seen as an excuse for other clubs to be vultures. If all our relationships were like this, we would all die very lonely and miserable people. The ‘grass is greener’ is the biggest lie ever. A cop out excuse to simply not try or understand fault is often applicable to all parties.

It’s interesting that in 3 different articles all published in the past 48 hours; one has Klemmer on $800k, one has him on just over $850k, and another has him on $900k. I’ve been told media don't get these numbers wrong so presumably he’s being paid 3 different salaries at the same time? No wonder they want to move him on.

Within approx. 10% those numbers you’ve listed, so safely say 800K plus is on the mark.

A LOT OF f**kING MONEY either way.

Recap of todays Toohey’s News podcast with Max McKinney (new main Knights writer for the Newcastle Herald)

- Seems pretty certain that AOB is safe until next season at least. McKinney seemed more logical, asking how many coaches survive wooden spoons if that were to happen, to which Toohey strangely compares this season to Trent Robinson and the Roosters finishing 15th in 2016, and says that AOB has ‘runs on the board’.

- Knights are still privately ‘reasonably confident’ that they’ll land Brooks. Joey is the main force pushing for it, followed by AOB who ‘can’t wait for a star halfback any longer because he might be out of a job’ (SOS Peter Parr).

- Suggested Crossland probably won’t be here much longer.

- Says there’s probably a few contracted players they would like to move on, and they’re already in a healthy position salary cap wise, but would be even healthier if they can move Klemmer. Also speculates it could help them make a bigger play for someone like Munster in 2024.

- Toohey’s version of the Parramatta saga is: the Eels approached Klemmer’s manager who took it to the Knights. They said they would entertain the offer but wanted the Eels to keep him and pick up his contract next season. Toohey doubts Klemmer personally wanted out and notes that Klemmer plans to live in Newcastle after footy even if he he has to go somewhere else in the meantime. Says he’d be surprised if Klemmers management aren’t already negotiating with other teams.

- Gardner and Hayden Knowles seem to be the main ones unhappy with Klemmer, Toohey doesn’t know what role AOB has played in it.

- Seems Gardner has in fact been the one running the football side of things thus far but has essentially given himself the sack by bringing in Parr. Gardner tried to bring him in previously before appointing Buderus.

- Neither believe losing the captaincy is the reason for DSaf’s poor season. Toohey speculates that off the back of signing a new long-term deal and becoming an Origin mainstay he may have “took his eye off the ball” in pre-season. Notes that he has admitted as much himself and already ruled himself out of the World Cup.

- Despite a couple of our assistants being off-contract currently, Toohey doesn’t think they’ll bring in an experienced coach to help out (Paul Green given as example) because of fears it’ll make AOB look even more under pressure. (Again, SOS Peter Parr).

- Also notes Paul Green’s history with Ponga makes him an unlikely target regardless.

- When asked about the high turnover of staff in recent times Toohey notes it’s not a ‘happy place’ and AOB can be ‘quite volatile’.

We have two problems not easily fixed, first is a very ordinary coach that has failed to improve the side overall and secondly the Captain who is not a leader despite being our best attacking weapon.
DanS was nominated Captain and with little or no advice was withdrawn from the position whilst negotiations continued with Ponga who then became Captain.
if anyone thinks that that move was okay with everyone, the team, they are kidding themselves. A local lad made good taken over by a high paid blow in.
This was the start of the problem and it has continued with a downward spiral since round 3. The best player does not always make the best Captain.
This has caused what I believe is a lot of decent amongst players and the lack of good, fair and selective coaching has enhanced that.
We are currently a mess, the answer, surely we all know.

To be fair, neither of them have been good captains. Pearce was running the team last year, just didn’t have the title.

Knowles was involved with Klemmer in the NSW camp that got him blacklisted so decent chance there’s prior history there.

Still seems unlikely someone with his reputation in the game would just turn on any player over something as relatively minor as what’s being reported.

I don't know why Gardner keeps getting slack here. He tried to sign Parr many times and considered Parr the best man for the job. Didn't just go sign no. 2 but tried to do the best he could until he got his man. I don't see any ego or stupidity there. Just a case of circumstance.

If he knew he wasn’t the man to run the Knights for this long, he could have put another football manager in place rather than waiting for Peter Parr.

Licensed club management - the guy is outstanding. A football club is a long way from being the same job though.

That's what Buderus was for though, right? Argue he's not the man for the job but I always thought that was his role.

Parr is well Known for delivering big name
Players with little or no fuss. Things are done quietly. He did at the Cows for years. He is our best shot at getting a Munster type player here. Before his arrival it was a pipe dream but he is the man JT has long lauded as the reason behind his successful Cowboys era. He famously agreed to re-sign for less money in 2013 than on offer elsewhere, on the proviso Parr stayed on as football manager.

If we get Munster in 2024, and replace AOB, then I think I can forgive the past ten years of Knight's crapery.

sorry but that Toohey's news is a bit contradictory and shows the club doesn't have a clue whats going on

How can the club be happy with O'Brien and say he is safe for next year but then say its not a hapy place at the moment and O'Brien can be quite volatile. That there is the answer to one of the biggest issues currently. If they can't see that then there is no hope

Also how delusional is the club if they think they'll have the money in the cap to go after Munster, you could offer him $2 million a year and he wouldn't take it. The club is currently a bigger basket case then the Tigers, no one of Munster's calibre is coming here until we fix up our club and our on-field performances

What a mess. Nothing in Tooheys news is cause for any hope. How the actual f**k did we get back in this position? Brooks? Klemmer possibly leaving? AOB safe? Ugh...🤦‍♂️

This f**king club...
