Does it really mate?

Ive not seen all that much from him to convince me he is a good FGer, especially at centre. Wing maybe

Still not an appealing buy imo

He has been a constant in their first-grade side when fit since the year after NYC. Goes straight in when returning from injury. Not sure how that can be considered fringe first-grade.

I rate him personally. As a centre more than a winger. Sounds like the Sharks are after him though.

Apparently gags was criticized in the video review from the Qld coaching staff.

'The Maroons’ review highlighted five of those missed tackles by O’Neill as costly although not all of them were purely his fault.

The Queenslanders defend using a ‘pendulum system’ which is thrown out of whack if a winger is out of position.

Dane Gagai is said to have broken the defensive system twice which contributed to mistakes by O’Neill'

Wow really? I saw that as O'neill's fault personally.

Yes, effort tonight for QLD - again.

What do you attribute his poor performances over the years to? His 'effort' in covering ground, defending, talking, supporting and ball returning etc for QLD is not comparable to his effort for us. He actually looks a decent player for QLD. Like he'd put his body through anything. Looks bigger, stronger, quicker and definitely plays smarter for QLD. 3 good games for them does f**k all to help us over a season though.

Time for him to move on ASAP.

What do you attribute 'his problems' to if not effort?

And yes, I've said for years he is a winger, before his origin debut. Of that there is no doubt

Gagai has a fair chance at being selected in the centres for game 2.

Let's see if his apparent "increased effort levels" improve his performance in the toughest arena of all.

I would suggest that to be backing up for us tonight even though he's leaving shows that he is a competitor and giving a f*** isn't one of his problems.

Just on that, how any player can be backing up to play a game in literally less then 48 hours after an Origin game astounds me. The modern day athletes are incredible.

Roy Masters article. Read the paragraph about Gagai.

Also, origin players have been backing up for years.

While I still say he is not a full back, I think we keep him in the squad until the end of the season based on his effort tonight after backing up from origin... he was trying at 110% tonight for us after one of his most involved games at origin level and I want that on the paddock as often as we can get it.

With Gagai gone I think Newcastle need to really consider signing SKD despite the cocaine stuff. He's a representative centre/winger just like Gagai is, brings experience just like Gagai does and he'd probably sign for little money due to lack of NRL options. Signing someone like Aaron Gray who is "solid" week to week isn't really a suitable replacement. SKD is a bit rocks and diamonds but when he's on he is a gun. Unfortunately due to Newcastle taking the "wait and see" approach a lot of solid outside backs have already gone.

Don't think Cooper Cronk is going to continue with his career after this year which leaves very limited stocks in the halfback department with Tyrone Roberts probably being the best choice as it stands. Away from him only guys like Jeff Robson, Josh McCrone and Luke Kelly are available. I think Roberts would be my first choice.

Representative player would be nice to have Jacob Lillyman sign with the club since he could be a welcome forwards leader and kind of play the role that Ben Kennedy did for Manly later in his career. Would be a great mentor to the Saifiti brothers. Jacob Lillyman/Daniel Saifiti starting games and then being replaced by Jacob Saifiti/Starling could be a decent combination although I'd like to see them sign another prop for the bench.

Throw in one of the experienced guys off contract like Dave Taylor who are cheap and desperate to impress and you have a pretty decent team.

1. Kalyn Ponga 2. Ken Sio 3. Shaun Kenny-Dowall 4. Sione Mata'utia (C) 5. Nathan Ross 6. Brock Lamb 7. Tyrone Roberts 8. Jacob Lillyman 9. Danny Levi/Rory Kostjaysn (Hopefully Kostjaysn) 10. Daniel Saifiti 11. Mitchell Barnett 12. Lachlan Fitzgibbon 13. Jamie Buhrer 14. Josh Starling 15. Jacob Saifiti 16. Dave Taylor 17. Joe Wardle

I'd like to see Pythian get a run next year. He will have a long road back. I'd thought at half but mention has been made of him at centre.
Would anyone rate him at centre?
