Given how well everyone is playing, it now becomes interesting to think about what we need.

I still think our top priority should be a good 5/8. Maybe a destructive backrower after that.

Thoughts?

Exactly.

I would have said centre before R1 due to Hunt (and the teams defensive deficiencies) but now that has been turned around I can't see how Hunt is not holding his own as a first first grade centre atm.

hooker and 5/8 are priorities the rest are foot soldiers.

Mann could progress into a good 5/8 so interesting to see how he goes the rest of the season.

Watson could be a hooker ? he has all the makings of one and just needs time and focus to see how he goes there. His passing is a little slow and off the mark but he has some speed out of dummy half and can tackle the big boys 1 on 1. Could he be the next Bedsy ? was a half and end up being one of the best hookers to play the game.

Other than that I really believe we have a good squad that just needs time to develop. Most havent even cracked 100 NRL games yet so the best is ahead of them.
Yep agreed. I think the nucleus of the side is certainly in place, edge backrow would be one area we could strengthen given Sione has developed more into a middle and Guerra might be going down that path when he returns from injury. I think we should let SKD go and perhaps go after someone cheap just for some depth

Keen to see what becomes of Star Toa, Bradman Best etc. Now that we can finally bring these guys along in the lower grades instead of murdering them as k8ds in 1st grade, they may be a cheaper solution to outside back depth?

Isn't he signed up for years anyway? Just give him whatever he wants. And tie him down for 10 years.

I'd like to know how that can be ? the guidelines around this stuff is murky.

If Ponga goes anywhere it wont be to another NRL club

BRONCOS, EELS CHASING PONGA

THERE is much interest in Kalyn Ponga’s next NRL contract with Brisbane and Parramatta rumoured to have him under notice.

Ponga is the third-highest paid player at the Knights behind halfback Mitchell Pearce and front-row enforcer Dave Klemmer but is clearly their biggest star and best player.

He is under contract until 2021 but it hasn’t stopped clubs from making early inquiries, which is perfectly legal. Ponga will become a $6 million player over five years with his next contract.

It’s interesting that Ponga’s father — and not his manager Wayde Rushton — has been the one driving the early contract renewal talks with the Knights

Yeah it is a dream

The worst kept serect in the sporting world is that he’ll be going to union and play for the all blacks when this current deal finishes if not sooner

Is a serect the same as a secret ? .........and years end will see Santa Clause come down the chimney on a snowy western Sydney night in december with the Eels still drowning in a cesspit of ineptitude and nary a lifering in sight.

Courier Mail article from April 6 saying Ponga is keen to stay long-term and his management wanted to get a deal done by mid-season/Origin. Now we're getting close to that time and they're reporting outside interest. Sounds a lot like they're just trying to squeeze a few extra dollars out of the Knights to me.

Squeeze all they want. The kid deserves it!!

I did start with the word apparently....

Now being reported 3.4 million over 6 yrs for a kid who has played a few minutes of grade.

Wayne has certainly changed his tune re paying props more than crumbs.

You wouldn’t want Hass? Haha

Wooska!!!

Where ya been big boy??

The point was Bennett spewing BS for a million yrs not to pay props 50c. Certainly could not have entertained that then ... but of course it looks like a Ponga deal - f**king cheap. Bennett got 1 right. Just made massive errors on 7 of the other blokes he signed up on squillions. But yes, I'd like him at Newy. Congrats to the bloke on his Origin selection. He deserves it. Very interesting to see how he goes.

You are the greatest Wooshka!

What do you think of our defence at Newy now Woolf has weaved his magic?
