Rumoured Targets 3

Luke Brooks?

Any half would be licking their lips at playing behind our pack. Ferrari with no steering wheel.
I'd take him, he just needs a change of scenery

You're right though, our squad would be a very attractive proposition to a playmaker. All the ingredients for a premiership.

Kyle Flanagan, Matt Burton, AJ Brimson, Tom Deardon.
Flanagan or Burton could be realistic , the rorters have to choose between Flanagan or Lam surely they cant keep both , and Burton cant crack the panthers line up so will be looking for an opportunity.

Jaeman Salmon is behind Brown at the Eels and showed promise, he's off contract i think.

Bailey Hodgson, the cousin of Canberra hooker Josh, has emerged as a target for the Newcastle Knights.

An England youth international, Hodgson, 17, is an outside back whose preferred position is fullback.

The younger Hodgson is signed to Castleford but has yet to make his Super League debut.

The Knights have already signed another talented young English player in 19-year-old strike centre Dominic Young who is signed to a three-year deal from 2021.

I do wonder how much Foran is asking for on the market. At the right price I actually think it could be worth the gamble. Emphasis on at the right price.
I read that he was ok with the 400K the Bulldogs offered. Just wasnt happy with 1 year. He wants a 3 year contract.

That's less than Watson gets paid. It's one of those ones where you could get an absolute steal and take a squad to another level, or get burned. I'm inclined to favour the gamble on this one, at 400k the risk isn't too extreme. There is no option on the market even close to the value Foran on 400k would bring if he spent more time on the field.

Best mates with Pearce too. I reckon if we threw him a bone, he'd take it. Why wouldn't he want to be the link man between Pearce and Ponga, behind our pack?

The problem with a young talented half would be Pearce's seniority. The youngster would have to play second fiddle and probably not influenxrthe game as much as he wanted (Lino was also a bit like this last year).

Foran, on the other hand, could possible take the leading role away from Pearce and lessen the pressure and perhaps get Pearce back to playing career best footy.

A fit Foran is a no brainer to go alongside Pearce, exactly the type of experienced halves partner Pearce needs.

He's a roll of the dice though.

Need to do something or we'll waste some good years with our squad, I'm expecting Frizell will take our pack to the next level also.

Yep, pretty much my thinking as well. I don't think we can just bank on youth or look to groom another half at this moment. We've built a squad capable of doing things, we need someone who is effective right now or we'll miss our opportunity for a while. If we get him for 400k or close to it then honestly the risk isn't even that high. There are plenty of higher value, riskier contracts out there that fell on their arse.

This is a dangerous mindset.
We need to make sure we get the right people, not just bodies in to play 6. That's how you become the Tigers.
So far we haven't shown we can develop talent, especially in the halves.
If that's the case it's worthless to buy anything beyond a proven quantity. No to Brooks.
It makes Foran more appealing. If he's asking for 400k from a financial perspective it's a low risk, high reward scenario. The catch is if/when he goes down, we need to have a well planned Plan B Eg not Kurt Mann.

For as good as Mann has been this year, and I believe he probably won us a few games almost single handedly, I do kind of wish he wasn't in the squad when we're full strength so the option to play him is removed.
Then we either have to play Phoenix or Tex, or actively pursue someone. Right now he's a progress stopper. Good enough for first grade and this year can't be dropped, but not good enough to be part of the future.
