I came in here to post that I wish we hadn't have let Tapine go, but lets face it, if he'd stayed with us he'd either be retired due to numerous season ending injuries, or playing local league because Brown didn't rate him
He has come good but we just never really knew with him.

Yeah, it'd be nice to have him for sure. 500k for where he was at was a tough ask though. Ricky gambled and it paid off for them.

Tapine always had alot of ability but I think has really come into his own under the new rules. I've said before the new rules really benefit forwards who can play before the line and have footwork like Tapine, Kikau and Angus Crichton, line runners like Cordner and Fitzy just are nowhere near as effective as those guys

in all fairness if he was still with the Knights he would have been derided by "supporters " all these years. Tapine is 27 next year and has been in a good system and surrounded by a much improved team.

We have players like Sione who is 2 years younger and people hate with a passion.

It takes time, good coaching and a good system to allow these players to reach their potential.

Wouldn't say hate but to be fair Sione hasn't exactly climbed to the heights expected.

I think for all our love of the club it's been a career killer for more than a few players over the last decade or so. I'm hopeful we've turned the corner on those days

I don't think that's got anything to do with fans expectations, I just think the scouting and junior development hasn't been up to scratch. I think Clint Zammit coming in will be vital in our becoming a development club again. We know we've got good kids in the Hunter but hopefully Zammit will find us guys from Qld, NZ, Pacific Islands like some of the guys he's found in the past like Taumalolo, Kikau, Ponga, Brandon Smith, Hamlin Uele, Tabuai Fidow, etc. If we can start bringing in a few youngsters of that calibre into our junior system it will really lift the bar for the local talent.

that's a very impressive list of "finds " there. Am I right in saying he isnt based in Newcastle ?

Will he be a plus for our side? Or just a dud promotion?
I would have thought a rookie coach would be best supported by an assistant that's not on a steep learning curve to be honest. Having said that AOB must see a lot in him to make that decision.

He's staying on QLD and will be in charge of QLD, NZ and Pacific Islands. Zammit's list of recruits speaks for itself hence why he's so highly regarded, it's a massive indictment on Paul Green that he let most of them leave

Released by the Titans isn't the best reference you can have on your resume.

Agree but there are a couple of guys lining up in the semis next week that we released(Starling, Naden)...

Roberts at least plays with instinct. On that basis I’m interested.

He actually played some of his best football up there I think. Got moved around a couple of positions due to inconsistency.

Wouldn't be against it on a entry level contract, but I'd rather move forward and take our chances on a Hoy or Crossland.

Roberts is better than what we have... although much like everyone else in our squad, his biggest strength is his running game.
