The other option would be to keep paying $800k every year for a player the new coach doesn't want. Not as crazy or unheard of as it sounds. Panthers still paying RCG for a few years yet.

which begs the question.... why doesn’t the coach want him. He is churning out some decent stats.

They've barely been able to make competitive offers to most of the players they want to keep such is their salary cap situation. Clearing some cap space and moving on from a highly controversial figure in one move is probably seen as a win-win regardless of his form on the field.

Yeah but $400k in today's market doesn't get you much especially if you're a struggling club that has to pay overs

What happened with the mculloch deal? Didn't we sign him, he got injured, still had a player option for the following year with the Doncs so went back there, then traded to Saints?

The option would follow him, and be a noose around our neck if the Broncos weren't tipping in for the duration of it.

NO WAY. I don’t like the idea of signing Lodge but at least he’s got enough self awareness to admit he’s done wrong and work hard to fix it. Izzy has been trotting out the “no regrets” line for the last couple of years and has shown no sign of remorse or any awareness that the stuff that he puts into the public forum can be very hurtful and is also damaging to his employers.

Izzy’s views are his views and that’s fine but the guy just doesn’t seem capable of keeping it to himself and also doesn’t seem to realise that there are some things that you don’t say in 2021. I expect that if he does return to rugby league at some point then a club will end up having serious egg on their face when Izzy decides once again that it’s his sacred duty to inform the world of his rather ancient opinion.

The ultimate rocks or diamonds player in his day but had become more consistently average by the time he got to us. Was a very good yardage player for us even as his athleticism faded.
