Yeah I'm not sure about Brooks any more.

I was for it in the off-season but now having watched him he just seems like a shot player. He needs a new start but I just don't think he's hitting any peaks here on out.

I don't see why we would entertain Brooks coming here when he clearly looks lost out there. If we were losing then sure but messing with the current setup is just dumb. The argument though will be injuries and from that perspective it is also with merit. Possibly we get Brooks as our 2023 halfback with Cluney in the 14. But then if we get Will Pryce where does he fit in? I am of the view the Pryce approach was insurance for if KP leaves.

yeh im off the Brooks train. At 27 hes had long enough to show something but every time i watch him hes just looks like a passive bystander. I'd rather go after Jock Madden who was a highly rated local junior that the tigers poached off us a few years ago. I think with Clifford seemingly taking on that dominant playmaker role it gives us options where don't necessarily need an experienced 7

Same as the majority, when it was 1st rumoured, I was keen, but not so much after the start of the year.
So far the Clune - Clifford combination is working. I feel Brookes and Clifford would be too similar and I much prefer Cliff.

As Jono said, Brooks just looks completely broken at this point. Has/had enough talent to be a good player... but at this stage he's suffering from Mullen-syndrome - but with less upside than Mullo had. At least Mullo would win you games from nowhere here and there and kicked well - and was a competitior til the last. Brooks is just completely shattered at this stage.

Brooks is on $900k per season. I don’t know if we should feel sorry for him while he’s pocketing that much. Sure he’s in a shit club, but at that wage you should look like a good player in a losing side.

$900k per season also means signing him is a moot point when we are getting real value out of someone else in that spot.

I genuinely think Johns was speaking in the past tense, and that that ship has sailed. The only other angle could be that he’s trying to convince him to take unders for happiness/ambition on his next contract - in which case they could work together. But I don’t think he was trying to plant that seed.

Perhaps Brooks has enough money now and just wants to end his career on a high. If he is willing to take 400k a year and really put his soul into ending his career on a high, I think he would be great to have here learning from Joey.

Just on Cliff being the dominant playmaker. Its been my observation too that Clifford is taking the lead but listening to the Matty Johns show on SEN, Joey was saying its Clune who does all the talking and directing on field at training and in games. He also said his footy IQ is off the charts

Thought it was interesting insight and something we as fans arent necessarily seeing

Look at the first 15 minutes of this Tigers Warriors game, Brooks is taking a back seat to Jock Madden and has had some bad defensive efforts. Actually his efforts in general just not good enough. Doesn't look interested and just going through the motions. Doesn't like like a bloke with much drive.

Brooks is cautionary tale for all young players not to buy into the hype around you. Not suggesting he did himself, but it may have led to complacency it would just happen for him and it has not.

I’ve seen it. Clune is definitely the one calling the shots. Clifford has been exceptional, but Clune is picking his spots, and getting it right 90%.

Toohey's News

- Knights are still more than $700k under the cap for this season. A big chunk of that can be saved to use next season.
- Mentions again that we're chasing Will Pryce & Kai Pearce-Paul.
- Talks up Clint Zammit; says he copped some flack for the signings of Jake Clifford & Adam Clune. Also credits him for bringing in Leo Thompson.
- Knights will look to extend Clifford's deal soon. Current deal expires at the end of '23.
- Mentions again Anthony Milford will take one of the roster spots if he's cleared.
- AOB wants to sign Mat Croker longer-term. Currently only on a second tier deal and needed an exemption to play.
- Brodie Jones was the only player that avoided COVID in the pre-season, only to catch it the week he was set to return from injury.

Neither did I until recently. Think it must be a new rule. Was apparently the reason Broncos let Isaako go.

“I spoke to the Broncos today and I asked why they would even let him go and they said, No.1, he wasn’t their first choice in any of the positions that he plays,” Kent said on NRL 360.

“Second to that, under NRL rules you have to spend 95 per cent of your salary cap.

“But if you only spent, for example 95 per cent, then that extra five per cent you can spend next year.

“So it means the Broncos can spend 105 per cent next year in their cap."
