Rumoured Targets 3

Then I hope we are targeting all three then. Would be favorable to keep Frizzell around for another year at least but Fitzy and Barnett going isn't the end of the world.
Fitz yes, Barny however I think is under rated - depending on how much coin he is on.

On field , he is the heart beat of the pack, maybe not the end of the world, but we must sure have a good replacement in mind.

Off field , he is a huge part of the playing group.

Great player. Really like Barnett but if he wants to go and set up his young family for a better life, I'm very happy to let him go. I wouldn't want to raise our offer for him purely based on matching the Warriors offer.

Last year Pearce was the supposedly irreplaceable leader on the field, and look how easily Clune filled that void. Will be sad to see Barnett go but, as a middle forward, he too is very easily replaced in the squad.

I’m not going to pretend he is on the cusp of origin but Barney would be a loss.

He is a starting quality middle or edge who isn’t on stupid dollars and brings some x-factor.

You need more than 13 starting quality players these days.

it can’t be over-estimated how much Pearce falling off a cliff then leaving it to the last minute to bolt has stuffed us. We could have got Hynes or an edge forward last year. Can’t run spare salary cap out on the field.

No more no less than last year tbh.
Not getting into it. Done getting into baited into that dumb conversation - especially when it risks attracting even dumber contributions. More concerned about tonight and the future. We need leaders.

We need leaders.
Our major weak point IMO , there is not 1 single player that stands out as a natural leader. Not 1. ( Brailey could possibly develope )

Ponga isnt a leaders foreskin.

Look at the Storm or Rorters and they have leaders hanging out the wazoo.

They have coaches who win comps by developing players, reliable systems, winning attitudes and leaders.

Expectations are high and if you don’t perform your gone.

Ponga would get an arse kicking off Bellamy doing what he is doing. Just watched Dylan Edwards return the ball like a fullback should. Ponga is happy to catch it and fall on the ground. f**k that. The coach needs to give him a stint in reserves and make him stay there for as long as it takes for him to snap the f**k out of it. That’s leadership. That’s holding your highest paid player to account.

Our pack was obliterated today with and without the ball. Dan and Jacob just as poor as Ponga. Soft.

Just do your f**king job and do it well. The rest takes care of itself.

It was a panic decision making Ponga captain, way too early in his career.
I’m sure he rather be playing golf than doing media on his days off.
It’s going to even look dumber if he decides to leave.

D Saf mentioned it on the poddy when he was captain he’s more worried about coming up with the pregame speech than the game itself.
I can only imagine what Ponga’s pregame would be like.
Probably about the next NFT to buy.

Frizzell should be captain but he might also be leaving next season. We really don't have any natural leaders in the squad it seems.

Gagai looks a good shout. He tried his arse off again tonight.

this - it's about what standards are acceptable. AOB has accepted some really low sub-par performances from players.

I remember 1 post game interview with Bellamy ( they won the game ) and he was threatening to drop players and "get some players in that will perform " - and that's a game they won ffs.

Toohey's News

- Knights have expressed an interest in Jeremiah Nanai but Clint Zammit believes he’s likely to stay in Townsville.
- Once again, Will Pryce & Kai Pearce-Paul are still on the radar.
- Mitch Barnett will be a Warrior in 2023. They tried hard to get him before the season started but Knights blocked the move, won’t stand in his way a second time. In Toohey’s words; it’s not set in stone yet - but it will be.
- Tyson Frizell has a player option for 2023 but won’t be going anywhere. Expected to take up that option in the next few weeks and Toohey suggests an extension is on the cards given his form.
- Despite Dolphins links, Knights insiders believe Kalyn Ponga will take up his option for 2023 in the near future.
- Anthony Milford’s court date is April 11. Will join the Knights for the rest of the season if he’s cleared, though if there’s further delays in the legal process the club may look elsewhere.
- David Klemmer had knee surgery and unlikely to be back before round 9.
- Jayden Brailey is ahead of schedule and could be back early June.

It’s only round 4 and we already have a patched up forward pack missing several starters. If Friz is out with a hammy that’s only going to increase pressure to get some replacements in.

Barnett to Warriors is a shame because I think he does a lot of good at the club and we really needed his aggression and intent in that game last night. That being said he shouldn’t be on big money and if the warriors are coming in with a deal that we can’t match then that’s fine. Our back row stocks need an overhaul though.
