I am all for Kalyn leaving if his heart is not in it.. He clearly doesn’t care about the club at level we require of him. Can’t be angry at him. This is the way he is.
The fallout, if he says he is going, will be big. Fanbase will turn in him.
Update:
Joey’s reaction to Bennett talking to KP was pretty telling today. He is filthy. This going to get very messy.
Funny how everyone bagged the Cowboys for letting him go. The irony is now that if you do resign him, it will cost you a lot of freight and you still won't know what you will get.

Yes and no. He's shown his cards a lot more than he had before we signed him initially.

I'd release him no questions asked. He isn't going to help us win games this year if he is thinking of the Dolphins.

Get the English lads here asap. Pay their release clause fees with Ponga's salary.

That's certainly an option, pay him out and ask him to hit the road.

This is what clubs get when they go after a gun for hire, a mercenary with no emotional investment in the club, the town and its people.

Invest time and money into players who want to represent the town. Home grown lads who grew up wanting to wear red and blue, who debuted for the club and dont want to leave. We've just been so shit at developing these players.

problem is they mostly haven’t been any good for the last 20 years.

If Ponga does go I'd like to see him dropped for the rest of the year, and stripped of the Captaincy.
Not the way to deal with it. My post was to highlight the fact if he really doesn’t
Want to be here then he is best just going where he feels his development is best suited.

If he really does want to win a premiership, it isn't going to be at the Dolphins anytime soon. It's no good developing under a coach if it's going to cost you 3+ of your career. If he goes to the Dolphins, it's purely about money.

It’s not about the money. The reports are he’ll get $1.2 million with us, $1.3 million with Deadcliffe. He’ll be set up for life just fine in Newcastle, the problem is likely to be that he’s listening to the wrong people (Connor and Wayne) who tell him he’ll never find success at Newcastle. It’s a massive betrayal after everything the club did to support him and his family.

But what good is developing as a player if he's stuck at a club who will be developing and fine-tuning their roster for the foreseeable future?

He's on big bucks here, he's captain, and he can develop under a bloke named A. Johns who has built bit of a name for himself over the years. Let's be honest, "developing as a player" will just be an easy way for him to not have to say that he signed with Redcliffe because they threw crazy dollars at him.

And $1.3 million? 3rd party deals available to him will push the contract value way above that.

The other fullbacks should love him. If he gets 1.3 then they should be getting 1.5 at least next contract.

Johns on a poddy just before the season started mentioned Ponga has a bit of improvement left in his game.
Usually he would talk it up like you haven’t seen the best of Ponga yet etc
