Rumoured Targets 3

Coffee may want to come home, you never know.

He’s probably a good chance of playing consistent footy in first grade based on his form right now. Could replace Gamble or take his chances on Hastings not making it through the season.

Probably the best Clune replacement we can ask for. Just once again I hope it’s not a ridiculous offer with player options.

Two questions. First, who would leak the story about the phonecall between Hasler and McCloy and for what purpose?
Secondly, if you were Cogger, would you rather be a back up half in Newcastle's system, or Penrith's?
McCloy would have leaked it. Got a big mouth that's impossible to keep closed

Breaking news about an alleged conversation from 8 weeks ago.
What a scoop!!

360 really start to run out of shit to talk by Wednesday night.

In regards to Cogger, doubt we would sign him. The club seems happy with Hastings and between Gamble and Will Pryce we already have a couple lined up for 6. Like others have mentioned, Cogger looks good in the Penrith system but he’d be no better for us than the first time around.

Would be a handy backup but I doubt he’d want to come here to be back up when he could he first choice half at the Tigers.

Yeah, but, would you want to be first choice half at the tigers?

Tigers are going after Aidan Sezer instead. I’ll be shocked if Cogger gets offers to be a first choice half anywhere.

I read quite a few stories last month that the Tigers were very keen on Cogger but they might not be anymore. Wouldn’t be surprised if they were still keen even if they signed Sezer though given Sezer’s age. Cogger is average but there’s a real shortage of halves around.

Surely you’d get paid more to be a first choice half at a shit club rather than a backup at a good club. Also might be his last proper shot at being a regular first grader too so he may take it. Unlikely to get more than a handful of games per season at Penrith.

Clune is a better backup, so if they're talking to Cogger it must mean Clune off to England (or knights being knights and knightsing it up as usual).

There is the possibility that Ivan Cleary has unlocked Jack Cogger as well. He thought enough of him to make him Nathan’s backup in a year they are trying to win three straight titles. And given their junior depth he could have easily banked on a younger kid.

The more I think about it, the more I like the Cogger signing. He is a local, probably on low wages, only 25 (only just entering his prime as a half) and could be real competition for Gamble.

Clune looks like a champion bloke but he will never be an NRL standard half because of his size. Maybe 20 years ago he could have but unfortunately the game has left him behind. He should go the Super League and lengthen his career there.

Cogger on the other hand could develop into a solid partner for Hastings and be an asset to the team. Cogger doesn't look like he has the physical ability of Crossland but offers more direction, which is preferable in a half.

Mann looks like he is gone. So probably Gamble, Cogger and Crossland fighting over two spots in 6 and 14.

Cogger is barely any bigger than Clune and a worse player in almost every facet. Defence might be the only area where he's an improvement but he's still a small half who will always be a target.

Neither should be factoring into our top 17 if we're trying to improve next year.

The Panthers have a brilliant system where basically any players can slot in, do the job and look decent. It’s the same reason why most of their players suddenly struggle when playing Origin and they’re taken out of that system. They’re the definition of a champion team rather than team of champions etc.

I’d be surprised if Cogger’s suddenly been turned into a great player during his time at Penrith. More likely he’s just looked decent in a very good system.

Im fine with him coming to be a back up, but I’d be very concerned if he’s seen as a first choice half.

Did no one watch cogger when the panthers reserves ground the knights to dust? All he was asked to do was turn the ball back inside for 80 minutes, crossland literally could have done as good a job.

Cogger is Meaney with a trip to England thrown in. Bad at the knights, bad at the dogs, bad in England, falls into a superb system, not asked to do much and looks just ok doing it.

I can cop him as a backup if clune isn't sticking around but that's it. 3 years would be nuts though.
