Rumoured Targets 3

Tuala has some smarts about his play and is an excellent finisher. He has linked up superbly with Ponga a couple of times in the past for some spectacular tries as well. I'm not against it but I would like to see us target someone more in the battering ram mold.

A younger Hymel Hunt seems perfect.
Think Tuala has started 4 times in 2023, scored two tries one of which was that length of field pick up and run, so hardly linking superbly or spectacular. Plays ok, suited more to left wing where he has played his best

Whoever plays right wing next year will score about half the tries the left winger does just because of the way we attack. It's almost unbelievable Dom has more than Marzhew.

Has certainly earnt an extension, which shows the way forward for others who are given a chance to show their wears and reap the rewards.

Any feedback on Moidreke?
I think he’s got the highest ceiling of all the options mentioned. Meets all the criteria you want for a modern winger, but, tall, fast, Fijian and from what I’ve seen good under the high ball. I think he’s someone who hasn’t quite figured out how to maximise his athletic abilities.
I hope we can keep him around as we don’t have any outside backs with his physical attributes in the squad

Good news. Surely 2023 has been one of the best recruiting years we’ve had? Hastings, Gamble and Marzhew have all been fantastic, Elliot had a slow start with injury but has been a big part of our current run, Hethrington has been abit disappointing but the only real flop is Miller who we’ve managed to get rid of anyway.

100%, I think 2018 was another awesome year with Ponga, Pearce, Guerra, Ese’ese and Watson but expectations were a lot higher given the profile of those guys.
Hastings, Gamble, Marzhew would all be on below average salaries for their respective positions and have well and truly delivered. Elliott started slow with injury but has come good 2nd half of the season why has coincided with our winning run, Hethrington has been a little underwhelming but has shown glimpses and I think will be a lot better next season with a full pre season under his belt

So glad Marzhew re-signed. Seemed to come out of no where and I wonder what kind of increase he got.

I was so confident he'd have a great season with us and it would remind us of that legendary Cooper Vuna year that also kind of came out of nowhere but provided plenty of smiles for us fans.

Already left, we let him go early.

And massive, massive shame. He was the man to fill Dom's shoes.
Would love to see us sell that position to an up and coming prospect, show them how we brought in Dom Young as a raw teenager with 1 ESL game under his belt to one of the best wingers in the game.
Any half decent player manager should be trying to get their client into that spot

Yeah I agree with this, find a guy with a high upside like Young/Marzhew and tell them they get to play outside of Gags. Heaps of opportunities for a winger to look good on our right edge.

Yeah honestly, this is why I’m not crazy devastated that we’re losing Dom. Sure, he has the perfect athletic attributes for a first class winger, but he’s not a once in a generation talent. Other players like him will come along. We’ve had a few really good wingers. I think it’s depressed us so much him leaving because we developed him…but at the same time that’s a positive thing because we can do it again. A young winger would be chomping at the bit to play on the end of our backline.

Dom has some weaknesses too but his strengths outweigh those heavily most of the time.
