Rumoured Targets 3

He would have programs and set parameters on algorithms with projections for years ahead regards cap, recruitment targets and junior retention, all with built in contingency.

He would already a very good idea who he's letting go, retain, and who he wants to recruit - now a matter of process.
Yep that’s it. Eg moving Dan Saifiti on isn’t about signing a replacement from the market. It’s a move made in anticipation of certain players on the roster becoming more expensive in coming years. Leo and Dylan Lucas in the short term. He’ll have an idea of which pathways players he sees as being most likely to become more expensive to retain in coming seasons too.

Then when it comes to the guys who are off contract, he’ll have an order of priority in re-signing them and a maximum figure he’ll be willing to go to. He’ll also have a list of guys in the player market he’s considering & an estimated value for each. The halfback part of the equation is easy, Hastings is simply not being re-signed, and Brailey is very unlikely to be - the value isn’t there vs playing Crossland at 9 and grooming a long term replacement at 14. That puts us in position to make a good offer to an emerging #7 or a big offer to an established one if the right opportunity is there.

Then re the forwards, a guy like Hetho is a prime candidate not to be retained if he sees better value in the market.

Brailey will be nigh on impossible to move on for anything resembling full freight, but moving him a year early would still be a much needed saving.

Can't imagine there are clubs beating down the door to sign Hetherington or Elliot come Nov 1 and no reports the Knights have made any effort to extend - upside is next season both will be playing out of their skin for a new deal.

Possible 2026 - Croker (1 year deal next season to see how he goes) or other young candidate in for Elliot, and Sua or other young candidate in for Hetherington. Either outcome will offer better potential and much improved value under the cap, with their best footy ahead of them.

I read KPP is going to market, bet he fell of his chair at the Knights offer to extend.

This time next year Sully will have a war chest to inject some blue chip/ exciting prospects into the roster.

I think you’d be surprised at the interest in Brailey. We wouldn’t pay anything like full freight if he found a new club for 2025. Hooker is a pretty weak position comp-wide at the moment.

I bet Peter fell off his chair when he found out what we paid to get him.
yeh if correct that salary is borderline negligent

if Brailey's time at the Knights was a CV it would show the bloke didnt turn up for work for a high % of time due to consistent non contact related injury. The reported 600K outlay would not without significant risk for a prospective club.

Oh yeah he’s never getting another deal where the number starts with a 6. But someone will give him $400Kish is what I mean. That’s a calculated risk on a competent 80 minute 9. There are clubs that will be willing to take that bet.

What was the story there? My memory is so bad these days that I don't remember a thing about this.

I believe he went on a homophobic tear on social media. In the name of Jesus, of course. Jesus was a well renowned hater.

It's pretty embarrassing that he's anywhere near the club now tbh.
