So....anything official about Semi?

'Cos all I've heard is the club statement.

But if he's gone...well, it sucks, but you move on.

Pauli left after his statement about the cap.

Watmough's retirement happened because of the cap drama.

And even then his statement was an outrageous lie which he had no basis to make and a reflection of the complete incompetence running the joint.

But I guess you would prefer to think of it as a conspiracy by John grant.

Dribble dribble dribble.

I'm certain Pauli left before the season started, but anyway, every single club in the NRL would be over the salary cap, if the NRL suddenly determines that all their TPA's are now to be included in their salary cap, which is what they did to Parra.

Parramatta Eels consider rugby union stint for Semi Radradra after shock exit

Parramatta officials would be prepared to consider allowing Test winger Semi Radradra to play rugby union in France until the start of next season if he commits to a long-term deal with the embattled club.

Radradra flew to Fiji on Saturday and has told friends he does not intend to return, but the Eels expect him back for training before their next match against Cronulla on July 2 at Southern Cross Group Stadium.

There has been speculation in France linking Radradra with Bordeaux but the deadline for registering players ahead of the upcoming Top 14 season was last week and the wing sensation's name wasn't among the list of signings announced by the club.

However, Parramatta officials have been aware for some time that Radradra is dealing with some personal issues and was considering a move to rugby union in France or Japan.

Despite switching his allegiances to represent Australia in last month's trans-Tasman Test against New Zealand, Radradra is ineligible for the Wallabies because he played rugby sevens for Fiji in 2011.

It is understood the Eels would be willing to consider allowing him to play in France from August until next April if he agrees to a new contract tying him to the club for the next three seasons.

The Japanese Top League rugby union competition begins in November and has a shorter season.

Radradra is signed to Parramatta until the end of next season and the Eels have made it clear they expect him to honour his contract.

However, a stint in rugby union would be discussed as part of negotiations for a new contract.
The 24-year-old's departure to Fiji on Saturday has been compared to Sonny Bill Williams sensationally walking out on Canterbury in 2008 to play rugby union for Toulon in France.

The Eels say the difference is that they were aware Radradra was flying to Fiji and had given him permission to return home during the club's bye week.

A return flight has been booked but Radradra reportedly told friends before his departure that he did not intend to come back.

Fairfax Media understands that he missed a flight to Darwin in the lead-up to last weekend's match against Gold Coast after being allowed to return to Fiji and joined team-mates several days later than scheduled.

Parramatta recently released hooker Nathan Peats to Gold Coast and centre Ryan Morgan to Melbourne, while former Test forward Anthony Watmough retired to enable the club to play for points after breaching the NRL salary cap. The Eels have won the past three matches to keep their slim finals hopes alive.

In a statement issued on Saturday night, Parramatta said they expected Radradra to return before the Cronulla match.

"The Parramatta Eels can confirm that Semi Radradra has been granted permission to return to Fiji for a short family visit during the bye round," the statement said.

"He is expected to return to Sydney in time to prepare for the club's next NRL game against Cronulla.

"Semi Radradra is contracted to play for the Parramatta Eels until the end of the 2017 season, and has given no indication that the contract will not be honoured."

This type of arrangement is not unprecedented. I remember Sterling and Kenny were allowed to play in England for Hull KR and Wigan respectively in 1985 and they didn't return until about April. Mike Eden was our halfback for our first half a dozen games. Don't remember who played 6, maybe Ron Quinn?

This could be the beginning of something and to be honest can you blame the players for chasing the big money?

What’s the Buzz: Eels officials, players worried about star Semi Radradra
16 minutes ago
Phil RothfieldThe Sunday Telegraph

PARAMATTA Eels players and officials started worrying about Semi Radradra when he suddenly cleared out his rented home unit more than two weeks ago.

It’s when all the talk started that he wanted to quit the NRL.

Semi is a private man but word soon got around of his relationship breakdown and split from his long term partner and the mother of his 18-month-old daughter.

The unit he rented within a couple of kilometres of Parramatta Stadium was soon vacated.

It has been common knowledge Radradra has been the target of cashed-up French rugby union clubs for some time. Well before he was chosen to play for the Kangaroos last month.

There was even talk he would do a Sonny Bill Williams and just disappear.

His manager George Christodoulou has only fuelled that speculation by refusing to take media enquiries or even return phone calls, leaving the struggling Fijian to fend for himself.

The Eels have no plans to release him early from his contract which expires at the end of the 2018 season.

They say he has been given permission to return to his family in Fiji this week because the club has a bye next weekend.

He is then expected to be back on deck on Monday week for the following game against the Sharks.

The Eels are hoping that’s the case because the last thing they need is their number one personality player to walk out after what has already been the most tumultuous year in the club’s history.

Yeah Semi left because he wasn't happy that the members might vote management out. So did Hayne. So did Lyon. And Forans breakdown was the result of his worrying about the management.

Yeah I'm sure the volatility of our politics makes the place so attractive to players, coaches and executives.

So what leg do we have to stand on if semi does indeed decide to go to france/japan/whereever?

If we try to hold him to his contract i don't reckon french rugby union will give two shits about an australian league contract and will register him anyway

If the French do actually recognise our contract and we stop semi from signing but he still refuses to play for us does he still count towards our cap?

The club is on a hiding to nothing IMO

Pou, did you watch the latest game, I didn't see any issues with the players or staff. What were you watching that gives you the impression that no one wants to be at this club.

Keep going

what would be most interesting would be to see what Greenberg did seeing he was the Dogs CEO when SBW walked out and he took it to court

I didn't say no one wants to be here. Money soothes a lot of problems.
