Well, unless the players association agrees to it, that ain't gonna happen.

In the NFL there is no salary cap n TPAs. They can earn whatever they like from sponsors etc. . So what is published is only the amount paid directly by the franchise.

Those TPAs though would seem legitimate. There is no way that more than 5% of TPAs in the NRL are legitimate sponsorships that would actually benefit the third party sponsor.

If the NRL wants to publish players salary they would just need to come up with an argument that the players will accept.

If the NRL said to the players, the salary cap will go up to $10 million but your contracts are all to be published (among plenty of other requirements for a pay rise). If you dont want the salaries published then it can remain at $7million for as long as you dont want them published. The clubs want their 130% of the salary cap too...so it's in their best interest for the players to accept the increased salary cap.

The NRL essentially pays the players, so it's in their best interest to keep it low.

Maybe so, but doesn't change the reality that you can't publish players salary without their permission (or the permission of their representative body).

I wouldn't be so sure that all NFL TPAs are legit, particularly when the owners of franchises also own retail brands (e.g. Kraft).

But there's TPA rules, so why would you need to hide anything?

Of course.....if they want to publish them, they'll have to offer a carrot. Neither the NRL nor the Clubs (in general) want to increase the gross payments to players if they can get away with not doing so. $3m x 16 clubs is just under $50m, and their margins aren't that fat. Paying $50m to induce the publication of salaries is a pretty steep price.

??
EDIT: I get it....'no TPA rules'.

If they published the TPAs there would be pressure for the Cap rules to change. But granted, they are not as important over there because the salaries for stars are massive relative to the NRL.

The clubs get 130% of the salary cap, they want the salary to go up considerably. They're not paying the players after all.

In reality the NRL is already probably prepared to pay the players probably 9.5 million, so the carrot to get them is only going to cost them $8 million to get everything they want.

But you and I both know that the NRL couldn't care less about the publishing of player salaries at the present time.

Interestingly both these teams have ready made replacements for Semi in 2018.

Rebels - Marika Koroibete

Force - Curtis Rona

I can't remember Mick Cronin playing left centre.

The game is massively different since the 80s. Playmakers and kickers have far less time and space than they did back in the day. They are under more pressure.

Did Kenny ever get the ball at first receiver?
Yep but Sterlo did the majority. Sort of like Morgan and Thurston at the Cows.

Our middle forwards are getting about nine metres per carry, just like the opposition's. The difference is our forwards are making fewer runs because our sets are all starting on our goal line and theirs are all starting on halfway.
Yep and they are being smashed because they run one out without support or offering confusion to the defence meaning the oposition is only concerned in the guy running onto the ball even before he actually receives the pass. End result. We are being dominated in every collision.

Either of those options would be better than Feldt
But you'd have to agree Feldt is a first grader, good enough to win a premiership. At the right price he could be the right player. But I suspect he is worth more to a team that needs a goalkicker, and that's probably not us any more.

We have certainly lacked support runners in recent weeks. We need to get back to our solid work off the ball.

Yeah he's a first grader but a very average one at that. Considering we have the best winger in the game (up until this year anyway) I feel the down grade is too significant. I'd actually rate Rona the best out of the three. Very good in the air, good rucking it out and can find the try line. No glaring defensive deficiencies that I can remember either. We should still have plenty of cap to spend and we need a quality winger to bolster our back three. Feldt isn't that player IMO
