Rumours and Stuff

Our offer for Junior exceeded 500k. At the time Canberra blew us out of the water and massively reset the bar in the market for props. We didn't undervalue him, Canberra were just in a position (relatively cheap but productive spine) where they could afford to roll the dice and splash some lavish cash on a guy like Junior.

It would have been awesome to keep him, our pack would clearly be better with him, but we lost him prior to the full understanding of the cap fallout and before anyone had an inkling about Foran's imminent self-destructive cycle. Matching Canberra's 700k+ offer at the time would have completely crippled our cap. With the benefit of hindsight it might be easy to point out where we could have done better but I think we handled that alright at the time.

So apparently Hodkinson has been dumped from the Knights team for the weekend, didn't even fly to Townsville.

That's probably another half to add to the market

700+ for JNR. And at that point had a court case to be played out IIRC. Moderately large risk by Canberra but good luck to them.

How does a second rower end up playing fullback???
Sterlo and Taylor regularly switched positions in defence. Used to give us an extra forward in defence. Wasn't picked up much by the commentators at the time as there was a similarity in features and Mossop was an idiot. Also helped us protect Sterlo in his first few years as a half.

Damn! We shoulda done that with Sandow.... we could have simply re-signed him and avoided all this heartache in 2016 and 2017 with Foran and his bung shoulder and hamstrings, betting scandals, relationship dramas, going AWOL bullshit!

Pretty sure that's what we offered him, Ricky offered him 700k+.

Big overs at the time.

Big overs at the time mean jack in Juniors case. It's about predicting the future value of a then Jnr, who was head and shoulders above 80% of all props.

His future potential meant his value would undoubtedly rise, and Ricky definitely trumped us in his valuation.

In Parramatta's defense, signing Foz meant we had limited cap space.

The Foran debacle had many repercussions, and If we finish top 8 it would be a huge credit to ba and the team.

Could the roosters and dogs have been secretly told of next years cap figure to get marquee signing ahead of other teams ?

It's not wrong, it's just pointless to portray the stats in a positive manner as Pou Bear was doing...Pou Bear's purpose was to show that tackles per minutes was a positive thing, but it's a stat that doesn't demonstrate that your team will have any kind of success as a result of the stat.
If you don't know what his argument was (which you admitted) then I don't think you can realistically suggest that the stats are pointless.

All good. Carry on...

we can blame a lot on our previous management, if the cap wasn't stuffed up we would still have Peats for one.
Might even still have Foran if people didn't leak his location and problems to the media.

If Foran stayed we might have lost Norman. We had to get under the cap remember.

Perhaps the right move was to play for no points in 2016 and be under the cap in 2017. I wonder what our squad would have looked like now.

or they are working on no cap for next year and then tell the NRL to get stuffed when they are over it. I have a feeling a few clubs are over for next year
