Great article.

Some people have their head in the sand about how much junior rugby league is struggling. Soccer is an absolute giant and AFL is quickly taking a lot of kids (due to the money they are investing)

Does this crap really help parents put their kids in league?

Yet some idiots on this site (1 in particular) are saying 2 weeks for an illegal/prohibited substance is the right punishment.

FMD!!!

Well, the AFL's growth can hardly be due to their tough stance on illicit drugs. The Swans player found guilty of cocaine possession last year was suspended for a total of zero weeks. The report below was from soon after he was charged, but he simply copped the '1st strike' and a $5000k fine etc.

Seems to be working for them.

Yep the AFL's drug problem is just as bad or even worse, the difference is the way it's reported in the media. If a player farts in RL it's the worst thing in the world and big news. The AFL media are actually to happy to talk and report on the game unlike the hacks who report on RL who are just chasing the clicks for their shitty websites.

Not sure I agree with that. The Herald Sun and other papers love a bit of AFL gossip. There's pages of the shit every day and heaps of crap online.

Peter Sterling has called for tougher penalties for rugby league players caught using cocaine and other drugs, saying the punishments were "not commensurate with the damage it does to our game".

"When they sign a contract they sign on saying we're prepared to abide by the rules of the league and they're not doing it," Sterling said on his segment for Wide World of Sports on Monday.

"If you're caught using, in possession, whatever and it's proven that you are guilty, 12 games on the sideline. That's the first thing."Second time you're caught, two years, and if it's performance-enhancing we stay with the two years.

"The damage that it does to the brand and our game has to be reflected in the penalties that we hand out and I don't think it does at the moment."

The NRL has been rocked in the past week by four cases of drug use. Roosters player Shaun Kenny-Dowall was arrested for cocaine possession at a Sydney nightclub, while New Zealand internationals Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor were accused of consuming an illegal substance after last Friday's Test loss to Australia.

Cronulla Sharks chairman Damien Keogh was found to be in possession of cocaine on Friday night.

"Our game needs to make a stance here, I think we need to draw a line in the sand," Sterling said.

"I don't think that the penalties handed out are commensurate with the damage that it does to our game.

"I'm one of those zero-tolerance policy people I'm afraid because our players are so well educated, they know they can't do it," he said.

I think the NRL would be worried if we had a zero tolerance no dickhead policy.

On the otherhand sponsors would feel safer.

I was assuming that Lolo would be going there for this year alone to serve as injury replacement... not good job security but.

Plus then they'd have the Lolo brothers

Well I guess we it means Moses will see out the year for the Tigers then if Lolo is heading to the Cows for the rest of this season at least...

so we not getting Moses this year then?
Beat me to it!

I'm not too fussed about it tbh.... I guess it means Gutho back in to the halves now that French is fit again... Gutho has shown enough for mine to suggest he can do at the very least as good a job as Will Smith did in the halves...
