Neither is Kayser's

I agree, absolutely. But why replace one too small hooker whose defence isn't up to NRL standard with another?

No doubt Watson is a much better attacking player, but putting him at hooker will blunt his attack because he needs to make so many more tackles (he averages about 10 tackles a game) and it won't help our defence in any way

Watson is a gun, but where does he fit in?

This is our issue now, there is very little out there that sticks out, do we persevere with what we have? Or do we get someone who is as good as it gets for now but not really what we want?

Shit place to be in.

Absolutely spewing about Peats arrggggghhhhhhh

I wouldn't put either of them as 80 min hookers. They can share the load.

That's all well and good but it doesn't change the fact that neither is really up to defending in the middle. They're too small. Carrying one as a bench hooker is fine, but we still need a proper hooker.

I'd have loved to sign Watson as a 6, but we went for Moses and now I don't really see a place for Watson....

Damn shame about peats. Wish the club would just meet his demands. Is 600k really that much for a player of his caliber?
17 games a year Peats (now dropping to 15 for Origin) is worth a fair bit less than the imagined 20+ games player with the same ability as Nathan Peats.

Yeah Peats isn't huge but he's got 5kg on Watson. And he's a natural hooker so he's always been a hard working defender. Watson isn't and he hasn't.

It's not that I don't rate Watson, he's just not a full time hooker IMO. The defensive workload would be too much for him.

One way of looking at it is that in the three seasons (2014-16) since Peats became a full-time starter and a bonafide #1 hooker he has played 49 of a possible 72 regular season games (68%) [*Edit* - It is actually 48 games because he played one finals game last year but I'll leave it at 49/72 and boost the percentage for him]. He averages 16 (16.32 rounded down) games a season. Hell, he has already missed 6 games in 2017 so he is well on track to meet that figure again.

Injuries are an unknown quantity for the most part but Peasty is injury prone. You pay $600,000 for him and the numbers say you will get $408,000 worth of value out of him on the field.

I think it is telling that both the Eels and the Titans have serious reservations about meeting his demands in a market where genuine core spine players ask for silly money and get it on very short notice.

I'm not saying that we don't need a big body or two. I'm saying that people who want an entire pack of Junior Paulo will be the first to bitch about our defence being abysmal, and that our pack is far from being as bad as you and others seem to believe.

Big bodies need to be covered in defence. You need blokes to do that. You need balance. People fail to see that guys like Mannah and Alvaro are just as important as the big bodies.
Unfortunately both Mannah and Alvaro played in the Roosters massacre and Raiders game. Did we win, no!
And that's the problem, we didn't win and won't with players like these in our team, both average backup players for most other teams.

We run out of puff from 20 - 40 mins and completely tank from the 60 min mark. That's our big problem and it isn't our fitness, its our lack of size imo. We have to put so much effort stopping the big packs and don't win the ruck so on the back foot all game.

Yes BA has made many rookie mistakes with his recruitment and listened to the so called experts saying the reduction in the interchange favours smaller players. Well that hasn't happened, the teams with big and/or aggressive packs still rule and we have neither or enough of those in our pack. Its bottom 8 so consequently we play to that standard.

Alvaro made 40 tackles in that game coming off the bench, and did a stitch up job on Paulo and Boyd against the Raiders

Next!

Ba has in the past paid big money for leadership (choc and Foran). It's surprising he's not budging on peats asking price, considering it's a position we aren't strong in.

He has turned into an elite prop but Baz asked when they were at their peak. I'd say he wasn't quite at his peak when he was pinched.

He's been a great get though don't get me wrong.
Fifita was a very good player as a youngster and was surprised when Tigers let him go. I hoped we would get him but as usual either didn't identify him (I certainly did) or didn't pay enough. I mean he went to Sharks who were a basket case at the time but not sure what we were like at the time.

BTW I think our best option is to buy a young and up and coming Gorilla or two and hope for the best. Kind of like Sticky did with Junior.
And Barrett with all the forwards he bought this year. Bought a whole bunch and hoped for the best and actually jagged a few good ones. Still we sit back and appear to do almost nothing.

Arthur's got most of the squad he wants now, so he can be picky about whom else to bring in. At the time he signed Watmough and Foran he was still building the core of his side.

We also had plenty of TPAs to throw around prior to this year, or at least we thought we did.

So we should throw shit at the wall and see what sticks? Barrett got lucky. We don't need to sign muppets like Sironen and hope they come good....

Deadset you'd be the first whinging if we used that approach. ESPECIALLY if we bought a bunch of blokes who then played like shit
