Rumours and Stuff

On my point of statistics...one of Pou Bears great reasons why we lose games is because we had no possesion.

So the team leading the comp has only won the possession stat 4 times the entire season and has in fact won games when they're opponents have had 59% of possession.

I'm sure heaps of other teams have won when they've lost the possesion count.

So what does the actual statistic of possession actually tell us in relation to winning games?
It tells us that teams with poor rosters need more than 50% of possession to win. Btw Parra, on average, have less than 50% possession this season.

I wonder if Cam King's success in the last 5/6 games has been bc he has fixed the problems that kept him away from getting a start in NRL or if he always had these skills and BA was at fault for ignoring him ?

EDIT Or was it about the 2nd tier cap thing.
Or did Arthur prefer a harder working, quicker hooker to fit better into our defensive structure?

According to NRL stats Cameron Smith's work rate in defence isn't much better at 0.51. There's only so many tackles to go around. As long as someone is able to make them, it doesn't really matter.
Imo if the hooker is making too many tackles it means some of the other forwards are bludging. This is another useless stat as far as I'm concerned, a good pack is working as a pack if the tackles are shared around.

You could find it yourself and disprove my argument. I told you the stats show a correlation. But if you're too useless to find them here they are:

1. Storm 48%
2. Roosters 50%
3. Sharks 52%
4, Broncos 52%
5. Cowboys 54%
6. Eels 50%
7. Sea Eagles 50%
8. Dragons 51%
9. Panthers 51%
10. Raiders 49%
11. Warriors 50%
12. Titans 50%
13. Bulldogs 50%
14. Rabbitohs 49%
15. Tigers 49%
16. Knights 46%

Though I suspect you won't be able to make heads or tails of the correlation. I dare say you will accept nothing less than every team with 51% possession sitting higher on the ladder than those with 50% possession, who are above the ones with 49% and so on.

Because you're a f**king twit.
Thank you Pou, you've shown a trend BUT it isn't the bees knees. The team with the highest possession is 5th and on the slide, and teams with 50% possession are 2nd, 6, 7, 11, 12 &13. So, as I've said before, the quality of your roster (and coach) is a better indicator of where your likely to finish, not possession stats.

Sorry mate Cameron Smith isn't small. 186cm. nearly 6'1. Cameron Smith broke the mould from the traditional hooker. Small, stocky. Cameron Smith is tall, rangy. All class
Smith was rejected by Broncos because he was TOO SMALL. So was Langer until someone forced Benny to take him. By small I mean weight wise not their height. French is small but around 180cms high, and it doesn't affect his tackling. As they age they tend to put on weight, look at Thurston, think he was not re-signed by Dogs as too small also, which he was when young.

It depends why the hooker is in the team. It's significant that EVERY HOOKER IN THE NRL besides the four mentioned makes the baseline 0.5 tackles per minute. Some, like Friend and Kritchard, make a lot more than that.

It's not that King isn't 'making too many tackles' - he isn't making enough, just like Hodgson, Luke and Levi. But unlike Hodgson and Luke, who are key attacking players for their teams (as indicated by their stats) King is more like Levi - only in the team because there is nobody better available.

As an aside, Kaysa seemed to be getting around OK yesterday at Ringrose. No bandage or strapping at all. Looks in good shape even this early in his rehab.

Nathan Brown looked a bit stiff, like he might be carrying a cork or some sort of niggle

His promotion was definitely that reason Poo however he has surprised many with his skill and all round game. Probably even BA. That said, BA would have promoted him last season if not for cap issues and he also re signed him so he obviously see something in CK.

Thurston not being re-signed by the Dogs had nothing to do with his weight.

I spoke with Kaysa at Ringrose yesterday and he hasn't had the op yet. Swelling needs to go down some more and he is seeing the specialist this week.

Ahhh rightio! Cheers

Was he sitting next to Brown on the back row of those silver benches when you spoke to him? If so, you probably walked straight past me, I was sitting just next to them in the 2nd half...
