If Mannah is on 600k (which he's not) then he's on f**k all under the cap anyway. Nothing to see here

Don;t we have a few players that qualify for the long serving player allowance? Meaning it is not just Mannah's salary that gets the benefit of it.

Given we finished fourth there’s a good chance we’ll do worse next year, through no fault of any merkin. But finishing 5th-8th at least means we’re a decent chance of winning a finals match.

The next 2-3 years is our small window of opportunity to jag at least one comp, before a rebuild is required.

You’d think after there current deals, French, The King, Moses, Tep and Norman will be heavily targeted by rivals.

We’ve built a strong roster based on a few players that are probably on unders, or at least we’re getting extremely great value out of them.

I think we have three? Mannah, Kritchard, some other merkin?

Anyway even if Mannah doesn't get the entire "exemption" the net result is the same however you spread it.

don't forget brown, he will need some cap space reserved for his upgrades if he keeps his form.

to manage the cap we have to be prepared to let go of players that don't represent good value for money at the back end of their careers, eg jennings and mannah (love TM)

and that includes tepai moeroa if he doesn't start justifying the potential based $ he's now earning, as well as corey if he doesn't get his shit together off the field

You'd have to think this will be Beau Scott's last year at the Club.

Tepai was reported to have signed on good dollars.
Moses and Norman are maybe 200k less then what could maybe get if the reported 750-800k is correct. On 2017 form Norman doesnt get that amount.

Gutherson and Bevan id assume would need upgrades but by then Jennings Scott mannah and Manu are probablly not around.
By then the young under 20s halfback may take Normans spot while Tui Aifalou could be giving us value at Jennings spot.

And even if only one player qualifies for it, it doesn’t mean you need to overpay him.

But I doubt Mannah is in huge money. He might be on more than he’s worth as a player but there’s no reason for it to be something stupid like $600k. Arthur has proven he won’t be held to ransom.

who do we have other than timmy that's been around for more than 7 consecutive seasons? (i believe that's the criteria isn't it?).

and other understandings of the rule are; it doesn't have to be used on the player who enables it + maximum 3.

Trouble is that 5kg may dull his greatest asset, speed! Slater is so much better than most other fb because of his speed.
Yes he is turning into a good defender and is forcing balls lose as well as stopping offloads. One can only hope Moses will be almost as good next year with more training under his belt. Already he has improved tremendously at Parra.

Admittedly, 5kg was an arbitrary figure.

French will never be the greatest kick returner, because he has a lightweight frame.

But as long as we have wingers like Hayne/Semi/Auva'a to cart it up, we are fine.

French has a great footy brain, speed, and class - not to mention a great attitude.

I truly believe he will be a top class fullback, even given his size limitations.

Part of what makes Slater so good is his positioning, and that principally comes down to speed (ability to read the play, and react in time, is a huge factor, too).

I believe French reads the game extremely well, and already has lighting speed on his side.

I'm a massive fan of his.

slater was pushed around just as much when he came to grade as fb. filling in his body is why he throws himself around like he does now.

specifically states first grade.

regardless kaysa 5 seasons since nyc and peni fg debut 2013

Where did you get this from? This never used to be the case. Did they change it when they moved to the 6 year threshold?

Here is what the NRL's website currently says (but is obviously 'old'):

"Also included is a Long Serving Player Allowance ($300K) per Club for eligible players who have played more than six continuous years of grade football with that club including Holden Cup and NSW Cup."
