and then we all wake up and remember it's not 2009 anymore

It was in 2010 when he beat the entire Panthers side at Penrith to score and 2011 when he did it to the Titans.

Long time ago for sure - but everyone seems to think his whole career took place in 2009!

Where did you get this from? This never used to be the case. Did they change it when they moved to the 6 year threshold?

Here is what the NRL's website currently says (but is obviously 'old'):

"Also included is a Long Serving Player Allowance ($300K) per Club for eligible players who have played more than six continuous years of grade football with that club including Holden Cup and NSW Cup."

http://www.nrl.com/nrlhq/referencecentre/salarycap/tabid/10434/default.aspx

i took it off the first google result: https://m.nrl.com/nrlhq/referencecentre/salarycap/tabid/10434/default.aspx

Long Serving Player Allowance introduced to encourage Clubs to retain players who have served a continuous period of 10 years in first grade.

unless that definition has changed of course

That's a 2012 webpage, referring to a rule introduced in 2003.

The page I referenced was from 2016.

But it looks like for 2018 the whole LSP allowance system has changed, and is tied in with the development player shit.

That's because his whole super star status in based on 2009. Sure there were a few glimpses of brilliance but every good player does that from time to time, Its just like George gregan but he just made that one tackle. Another one is leyton Hewitt and Wimbeldon. Just on Hewitt I've never seen someone with so much potential and so young fall so fast. After he won Wimbeldon he never regained that form. I don't know what happened there.

Well, this is all just ridiculous.
Firstly, Hayne has shown more than "glimpses" in the years apart from 2009. He was a fantastic player in the years before then, and was an outstanding player in an incredibly shithouse team in the yeas after. In 2014, when we finally had a team that could win a few games, he won the player of the year award.
I will admit he hasn't shown more than glimpses since his return to RL, but was it because he was playing in a team that he didn't want to be in, or because he has completely lost the ability to play in that time?

Secondly, I don't know much about Union, but to say George Gregan is only famous because of one tackle is ludicrous. The bloke played for, and captained, his country for a very long time. He is considered among Union experts to be one of Australia's greatest ever players.

Lastly, Hewitt was world number one for over a year. He didn't just win one tournament. Admittedly, his was a style of game that wasn't going to be able to compete with the players who emerged just after him (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic). I guess he was lucky to find his best form after the old guard of Sampras, Agassi but before those other guys.

George gregan one of the greatest sustralian players of all time? No that's just not true. But back to Hayne. Hayne brings an it's all about me culture to a club. Do you know how demoralising it is to have your best player not putting it in at training every week. Great players lead by example. Hayne does not. He does coaches heads in. Just watch his play the balls. They are slow because for Hayne the shows over. Why play the ball fast. Watch his kick returns. The guy practically walks back. Watch his support play. His never there because that would mean he needs to be constantly running. Hayne thought he was to good for NRL. Not enough fame. So he went to the NFL and as soon as he realised he was a small fish in a massive ocean filled with hungry sharks he was back again. The saddest part is he could of been a Billly slater maybe better. He has the ability to pull off freakish things only going at 40%.

And that's why we are getting him so damn cheap!

Awesome, isn't it.

Hey can you do some training reports for us when Hayne returns as most on here probably can't get there as we have jobs and it appears you are a regular spectator with info like that.

I am really curious to know what stuff Hayne refuses to do or how slack he is and how BA and the players reacting to him stuffing around!!
