So just assumptions ??

Maybe poor coaching by Henry then!! everyone knows Hayne isn't a high involvement player around the middle (he is 100kg).

BA showed in 2014 how best to use Hayne.

BTW - how does winning the middle with second phase work ? And why would it involve Hayne in the middle? Wouldn't you want Hayne out wide when using this tactic? For example, forward offloads to hooker / half who then spreads it out wide, hoping to put Hayne one on one against another (hopefully retreating ) back and using his strength - his running game (a lot like the tactic we used in 2009)
Agreed. Hayne is best out wide, receiving the ball at second or third receiver. One on one he’s a good chance of beating the edge forward with footwork or straight overpowering the half.

Up the middle because the opposition are shown to be exceptional at defending out wide but struggle with second phase play with a back (preferable fullback) running full bolt on the offload which also creates the roll on effect. Sure you can still play out wide but the main plan is throug the midfdle. You can practically see a teams method they have adopted to win the game. Melbourne Storm are the best at doing what they are told and then when it's not working adapting to a plan that does work.

You don't use a fullback to basically play "touch" footy up the middle.

Ever thought the storm may be helped by a hooker call "Smith"? That is why they are so good up the middle!!

The storm play to their strengths!!

If you have Hayne in your side you play his strengths!!

You do realise Hayne was signed to a $500k contract as an outside back not a spine player and Gutherson/French will be probably be our fullback. Hayne isn't coming as an "elite" player.

If he plays to the level Jennings has been playing at, then it has been a success bringing Hayne home!!

Admit I haven't followed every page of this thread (as have no interest in Hewitt/Tennis) but have had this mentioned to me today. I hadn't heard it mentioned before?

I realise Hayne will be a centre/wing. I was just using it as a past example.

You sure about that?

Average kick return for 2017:
Slater - 8 metres
Moylan - 7 metres
Tedesco - 9 metres
Hayne - 8 metres

He doesn't seem so shocking compared to those players!!

The worry was his lack of tackle busts.

Anyhow he is 30. He is not to old. He has a point to prove. Its realy up to him now.
If he doesnt have a big year he has to go overseas or take another pay cut.
