I guess the whole idea of it is to have the next best 96 youngsters evenly distributed around league so they have best individual opportunities. As you say some of our youngsters could easily fit into that top 96. After that I don’t understand it. No one outside top 30 can play NRL? So the incentive to keep these 6 development guys get less each year. I hope and assume smarter people have reviewed that more in depth

For a bit of context, in their last ten games Ma'u made 135 runs for 22 tackle breaks, and Edwards made 98 for 14.
What source do you need? His contract has expired and there has been no re-signing announcement. He is not featured on the club's official profiles page and he hasn't appeared in any of the training photos. Until there is an announcement otherwise he is as much an Eels player as Cody Nelson.
It was on the NRL.com stats page but with the update they only have very basic stats there such as most bogan tatts, and Cam Smith forward passes let go by the ref.
Yeah i dont get the development players shit ... not being allowed to play nrl seems odd to me

How much is the minimum contract these days? He could probably earn more throwing scaffold around building sites.
In years past plenty of clubs gave second tier contracts to players they wanted to hang onto, even if they weren't ready for the NRL. As second tier players they were technically allowed to play first grade but for many of them their clubs had no intention of picking them in the NRL in their first year out of under 20s. But they wanted them training full time. I'd say this is a formalisation of the same thing. Anyway I'm sure there's the opportunity to seek an exemption if injuries wipe out the top 30.
Seems unlikely you would get through 30 player squad
I'm sure a few teams have used more than 30 recently. Maybe five or six last year.
You test them in NSW Cup to see if they merit a contract in the top 30. And they get replaced in the development list with new players graduating from the under 20s.
