A centre needs to pass whether in union or league, doesn't he?
Plenty of league centres rarely pass the ball. Their first responsibility is defence and next is running the ball. If they can pass the ball it is icing on the cake.

The following centres passed the ball less than half a dozen times this weekend:

Naiqama
Chambers
Scott
Blake
Hurrell
Kata
O'Neill
Bowen
Mitchell
Leutele
Aitken
Lafai

Euan Aitken passed the ball three times - less than both wingers in his team. Kata passed the ball twice. Both of them won this week. Origin and Kangaroos centre Will Chambers did not throw a single pass yesterday.

When was the last time he passed/offloaded a ball.
The reason Taumalolo is so good is late footwork at the line and his passing game. Moeroa, around the same weight, has neither of these in his arsenal. He'll probably never develop footwork but he can develop the other skills if he puts his mind to it and become a possible rep player.
I reckon Taumalolo is a lot bigger than Moeroa, and is a much worse defender too. He drags his arse in defence, though that's obviously not why he's in the team. The Cowboys tried to develop him as an edge forward early on, so they could get 80 minutes out of him but he just wasn't good enough. He was targeted in the line.

Jason Taumalolo: listed as 191cm and 117kg

Tepai Moeroa: listed as 190cm and 111kg

But Taumalolo is built like a tank - he's physically much larger across the chest and back than Tepai.

I'm happy with Tepai's progress this far - defence is the hardest part, and he's a natural.

Tepai is fine in defense. I saw him for Wenty once and his offloads was amazing. In first grade he has been tamed.

Wow. Not looking like a top 4 side. Long afternoon it will be.
Very disappointing, No idea why were are persevering with Taka in the back row. I wouldn't have him in my top 17.

Moeroa is an excellent defender and a solid player but comparing him to Taumalolo is insane. Lolo is the best forward in the world by a mile, I haven't seen the other great forwards of the past but at 24, if he keeps playing the way he's playing I'm guessing he could go down as the greatest forward ever, yes no??

Taka is a squad favourite and BA is guilty of trying to find a spot for him. Should be playing for Wenty for sure.

If Hayne shifts to fullback and French to the wing, I can see Gutho coming back at center.

Why wouldn't he just play center and sack Auva'a? Until Gutho returns that is?

Taka is now good enough to get a start on an edge somehow.

Got me f**ked how, he should be at Wenty, but he’s a Ba sacred Cow.

BA is loyal, but not scared to dropping anyone either.

If the effort was not there from a player AND he has a better option in the squad he will pull the trigger. But you don't drop a player for another if it weakens your team even more.

BA would play an injured or out of form Mannah over picking Nick Kassis every day of the week.

BA would pick an injured Mannah over Tamalolololololo if he had the choice.

I simply stated the parts of his game that makes Taumalolo so good and mentioned what Moeroa needs to do to improve his game.
