If Mennings stays...

1. French
2. Gennings
3. Mennings
4. Gutho
5. Korobete (I wish)
6. Austin
7. Moses

Is the implication here that Austin was one of the three? :p

I'm starting to think Koribete is a genuine chance. Based solely on the way the ARU have been treating him

Nah, that wasn't my intention re: Austin. It may well be Salmon, or even Norman in the '6'.

Oh and I agree re: Koribete. The ARU are definitely trying to suck up to him and that would indicate his manager gave them a tip-off about something. My mail about 3 weeks ago was that we were deep in discussions and I have heard nothing else to say we have shut the door...yet.

Would they be the same price? Probably still Hayne, and he might be cheaper.
I am split between the 2 and getting serious splinters. I loved the Jennings signing and will accept that loss of form can be temporary, but at the same time, I would have expected to see his quality come through in 2018 and with it some clear leadership. His recent Yips near the white line and sin-bin trips haven't helped us.
Hayne on the other hand I had hoped (not expected) to see some flashes of the brilliance we know he possesses and for mine, that is probably something to do with attitude and commitment. I am not sold on what his motivation is for being back at Parra and so jury is still out. He has been solid in his 5 1/2 games but again, we have needed more and he hasn't delivered it.

Hayne at $500k would be cheaper than Mennings in year 4 of his deal.

I don't think Jennings has been terrible but I think his decline is more likely terminal than that of Hayne's. And while Jennings was a top player, he was no superstar, so Hayne would give me more hope. Can't say I'm overly excited about either of them though.

Agree that he is more of a spontaneous player. I compared his 'creative' stats with Gutho (remembering Gutho has played fullback more than in the halves). I reckon they are pretty similar and I wouldn't want either of them in our halves long term:

Austin, 12 games, 6 try assists, 7 LBA's
Gutho, 10 games, 4 try assists, 4 LBA's (only 3 games in the halves but recorded 3 LBA's - 1 in each game as well as 2 try assists in those 3 games)
The big difference is their kicking games, though Austin is also a more threatening runner.

If it was a choice between Mennings and Hayne, which would you lot of merkins prefer?
I’d actually prefer Hayne at fullback and try to offload French. I just don’t think he suits us as a fullback and he’s not the ideal winger.

1. Hayne
2. Gennings
3. Mennings/Salmon
4. Guth
5. Korobeite (please)
6. Norman
7. Moses

I actually think French would be a better fullback with one lesser skilled half. With Norman and Moses as halves he receives the ball too wide to use his playmaking skills. With Norman and Moses you need a bigger fullback who's power game is their strength.

Your kidding right.!

French at best is a winger. Even there for mine he struggles defensively & although he can finish & score some great try's he struggles big time starting out sets off in our on 20. Needs to go..

Mennings is lucky he has that option. He has been dreadful In both offence & defence..

Gutho also isn't a centre. Nor at 5/8. Definitely not a winger. Best position is fullback but still struggles with the fundamentals, Passing & creativity. Not a huge fan.

Im not the biggest fan of Hayne either. Injury prone & has struggled for form. Although the past 2 weeks he has been consistent. But he offers more than the players above. He can create, pass, run, & turn a game with x factor.
Where you play him i dont know, but id prefer him in every position iv mentioned above than the players iv mentioned above.
Hayne over French at fullback
Hayne over Jennings in the centres
Hayne over Gutho in the centres
Hayne over Jennings on the wing.

I'm actually keen to see him in the halves for Fiji.
Last time he played there for Fiji he killed it, Controlled the game with his kick & running game.

Not disputing your views but French, Gutherson and Mennings are all signed for 2019, so while you might prefer Hayne to any of those in their positions, BA doesn't have that luxury because he has to play all three of them somewhere (unless he shops French and Gutho around). Where would you play them if you had to fit all 3 into your back 7?

That would be hard fitting them in that's for sure
If it was me & i'm sure a few people on here would be glad its not. I would off load a few & with the money we are paying others entice a few new players with $$$

The money we are spending on Mennings would buy 2 quality centres.
I know for a fact at present Latrell Mitchel is on under $300,000 a year.

Id offload Gutho, Mennings, French

I dont know who to buy but between the 3 you off load you could buy some decent players.

Jamayne Isaako currently plays wing & killing it. But is a fullback / 5/8 all his life

There is no right or wrong answers here, but if we are going to rebuild we need to start at the bottom & work our way through. We need a massive clean out & some smart signings

Do you really think Mitchell is going to be worth $300k if he went on the open market ?

Agree on offloading Mennings and French but a bit harsh on gutho. He is the heart and soul of this team and his effort and enthusiasm alone keeps him in my team. He is a more than capable centre and can cover fullback or the halves at a pinch. He is also our captain so must have a positive influence on his team mates.
