Do we want to keep a path for any juniors though? Im 50/50 on T rex and Gower.

Everyone is complaining that we dont have enough grunt in our forward pack and he was our best, along with polar, till he got injured.

How can you possibly be 50/50 ?

I have no doubt that the clean out will be guys like Matagi, Vave etc so there will be plenty of room for forwards to come through but they aren't exactly bashing the door down atm, TRex has been very conspicuous by his absence, we are missing him atm.

Lets hope Dylan Brown can make the step up sooner rather than later, he looks an actual 7 unlike anyone else we have or are in talks with.

Well, as a random tangent to the discussion, how many traditional 7s are even left in the game? Cronk, Thurston, Pearce and Cleary are probably the only "proper" halfbacks I can think of. And Thurston is probably as much a classic five-eighth as a classic halfback.

I think, as an artefact of the way teams now prefer to play split halves, there is a greater emphasis on running games than there has been in the past and we're starting to see the traditional five-eighth style of player in both positions.

I thought the idea of recruitment was to improve the side????? I fail to see how we are improving the side swapping Norman for Austin.
Because we’d be freeing up money spent on a primary playmaker (Norman) when we already have another one on the books (Moses). We could use that money at a position we are weak in.

It’s also likely that Norman is bad for morale and cohesion, and replacing him with nearly anybody will improve that aspect of the squad.

I'd probably add Adam Reynolds, Chad Townsend, and Ben Hunt to that list of genuine halfbacks (even though Hunt chokes in big games)

Played Origin and made three grand finals. Don’t criticise effort.

He made grand finals with a number of genuine stars around him. The Eels problem is we don't have any stars. We are filling our 17 with mostly average first graders - a couple slightly above average, some below average but mostly all average. No team is going to do anything meaningful in this competition without at least one (probably more) genuine star.

How much money will we be freeing up if we have to pay a chunk of change to get rid him???

No ones going to take him off our hands without getting a bargain.

And I thought Moses was dogshit when he was the primary playmaker. I can’t see how him and Austin works at all.

Reynolds yes. Apart from slightly changing up the mid-field bomb concept with those demon sprial things he's so vanilla I forgot he existed but he's an excellent game manager. I think Townsend is a pretty generic half, much like a guy like Blake Green, but I'd say he's just a steady kick-passer for the most part rather than a genuine old style "halfback". More of a higher quality Jeff Robson/Shane Perry type who allows a more explosive partner to shine.

I thought about Hunt, but to me he has very little concept of game management which is really the core aspect of the old halfback role

Another ACL? Would need a full season of footy to recover from it properly. Wont be any good 2019

no

the idea is to save money and buy players from Vinnies

winning is secondary

To be fair, we are still paying for past indiscretions. Our club has thrown more banks at anything that breathes for quite some time now. But, lets throw some more banks at solutions from our bottomless pit of banks.
