I reckon the different styles of hooker is generally because the most explosive running hookers lack the work rate to contribute for long minutes in defence.
True, Good way to look at it.

I have played and still involved, wasn’t trying to be a smart arse just asking a question as I was curious and talking footy (can never stop learning).
So really its not a “structured” hooker, rather just using the skill set of the player, as that is what the coach wants done?
I reckon all the hookers play structure as that is what they are instructed to do.
If you are referring to a “Smith” style hooker, I don’t reckon there are many:
Cowboys - Granville, more of a runner
Warriors - luke, runner
Broncos - McCullough - just a worker
Roosters - friend , just a worker
Souths - Cook, runner
Eels - multiple but not structured
Titans - peats, worker
Penrith - Katoa, not sure
Dogs - liccha, runner/worker
Manly - Koroisau, runner
Newcastle - Griffiths, worker
Tigers - multiple hookers
Dragons - McInnes, yes takes more control as per your structured definition
Storm - Smith, as above
Canberra - Hodgson above
Sharks, Brailey, Iaccept your opinion of him so as above
So out of 16 sids, only really 4 play any structured footy from hooker and let the hooker take some control.
The majority of teams just have a runner/worker as a hooker and not someone that takes control - they let the halves do that.
While 2 of the 4 - smith / Hodgson are “freaks” in their game management ability and the coach would be mad not to let them take control.
Also I say nearly any junior hooker that is great at playing “structured” footy is just moved into the halves as their skills are wasted at hooker.
What was it called?
[Hindy starts googling...]
I cant disagree with what you say here.!

Geez your racist. No idea. Black and tasted like coffee
Prior to this year we had good success going wide early. We attacked through our edge forwards Ma'u and Edwards, and got quick play-the-balls that way. For some reason this year it stopped working (though Williams was going alright before he broke). I suppose the defence is doing something different this year. They seem to be moving up quickly out wide and our middle forwards are only good in defence. Unfortunately multiple points of attack cost money we don't have.I reckon people over over complicating the game.
Quick play balls
Big powerfull athletic bodies
Smart kicking game
Minimal penalties and errors
We arent scoring tries cause our playmakers are shit. It is cause we arent tiring the defense enough to get quick play balls and have them going backwards. That is when gaps open. If the defense is set it takes a magic offload to break it or some kind of luck. But that is forcing a risk or turning ball over.
Lot of penalties we have given away have been when had a team backed up. When a teams inside there own 15mtrs and your defending your kind of attacking. We give dumb penalties that lets them off the hook and opens up the field.
Keeping a team inside that range limits the field to the middle. Your defense can then move tighter rather then spread, meaning less gaps and harder for them to get yards. If can start most defensive sets inside a teams 15mtrs chances are they wont score. Your defense has also had an easy set as ran less meters retreating and your strike players havent had to make tackles. Just the pigs upfront.
Then you get the ball un a good position. Two backs who are fresh can take strong carries. 2 halves who also fresh can make smarter plays as not fatigued and have more time to think. Your forwards can take a run on 3rd or 4th if need be. If there defense is retreating there will be gaps and can have a shot outwide.
Too many times we seem to go wide just for sake of it. Unless the defense is rereating its f**king pointless. Only a mircale play will result in a possitive. Better to play feild possesion.
What style is that young hooker we have?
If he is as good as has been reported he could be playing NSW cup this time next year and we may only need cover for 1-2 years before he is ready (obviously anything could happen and he just isn’t good enough but his resume suggests he will be)
Geez your racist.
I’m pretty sure your craft beer was actually an espresso martini.Im sure the beer is offended
No it was before he signed with any club when living with Norman.
You have to make generous offers when you don't actually talk to them. The Eels are offering James Segeyaro almost $400,000 a season to join them next season - an incredibly generous offer, which the 27-year-old hooker can't possibly knock back.

Anyway, I'd be pleased enough with him, as long as the Parra Eels don't become the Party Eels.

I agree largely. As long as they're putting in at training and in games and rehabbing properly.I wouldn't care if we did aslong as won we cpuld become the funnest club in history.
People seem to think guys who have a good time arent capable of playing good footy.
I reckon party guys play better when can party rather then being put in a cage on weekends.
The problem is they can negatively influence other players who aren’t able to perform unless they’re living clean.I agree largely. As long as they're putting in at training and in games and rehabbing properly.
