Exactly. With Beau Scott spending time at Wenty when his form was down it shows that a player on 500-600k could be dropped to wenty .
Scott was always going to be on the decline in the final year of his contract. The club would've been aware of it. The fact he was contracted at all in the year he turned 34 would've been the equivalent of back-ending, much like Watmough. These guys were signed as short term contributors, with the later years keeping costs down in the early years when the player is most valuable.
I don’t know why you think Evans wouldn’t be if he was on 350k
Because Evans has only just arrived at the club. He is 26; unlikely to improve or decline over the duration of his contract. So when Arthur says Evans would improve our depth it looks like he was talking literally. The chance of reaching his potential just a bonus.

You're putting the cart before the horse here. The point is that they are guaranteed top 17 players because there are no better options.

With the exception of Hoffman, who appears to have been signed for depth, all played far more first grade than reserve grade. In fact their reserve grade appearances would have been to improve their usefulness in first grade, whether due to fitness or attitude. Hoffman is in reserve grade because there are better options, meaning Arthur never rated him that highly to start with. Therefore wouldn't have paid too much.
....and as you keep pointing out, Evans has played far more first grade than reserve grade and you repeat adnauseum that Evans is playing for Wenty to improve his fitness. Surely that would be to improve his usefulness in first grade. So what’s your point and why does that not make it plausible (even probable) that Evans is on $350k?

So lots of other players can (and have) been dropped to wenty when they are on decent money...except Kane Evans

The Mole: Blake Austin close to joining English club Warrington

English club Warrington is close to signing classy Raiders five-eighth Blake Austin for next season.

Austin was dropped by the Raiders for this weekend’s clash with the Canterbury Bulldogs and there has been speculation for weeks that he is set to quit the Raiders.

Warrington is on the lookout for a talented playmaker after WWOS revealed recently that former Knights star Tyrone Roberts was set to leave the club.

A versatile footballer who can play five-eighth, fullback, halfback, centre, hooker and lock, Austin has played Test football for Portugal and has also represented City Origin.

At 27, he still has plenty of good football in him and should be a good buy for Warrington, one of the glamour clubs of English football.

Several Sydney clubs were interested in his services but it is believed a long-term deal at Warrington will prove the decisive factor.”
